Deciding which cabin to select for a cruise can be difficult. For our recent cruise on HAL’s newest ship, we stayed in a VC cabin category on deck 6. How did this cabin measure up? Well, we share all the details in our Holland America Rotterdam Verandah Cabin review.

Since we were guests of the cruise line on this sailing, our Holland America Rotterdam Verandah Cabin, 6048, was assigned to us. Reviewing the deck plans, this portside balcony cabin is located forward on deck 6, the Mozart deck.

We sailed on Holland America Line for the first time this past summer. Our Nieuw Amsterdam stateroom was on par with most balcony cabins on other cruise lines. Though, we were pleasantly surprised by the size of the bathroom and the balcony.

So, we were anxious to see how this room compared.

This Holland America Rotterdam Verandah Cabin was conveniently located right next to the forward bank of elevators. Being on deck 6, it was also equidistant from the indoor public areas below and the outdoor public areas above.

Further, we never had much of an issue securing an elevator during our cruise even on the morning of disembarkation.

According to Holland America Line’s website, verandah cabins range in size from 228 to 405 square feet including the balcony, which is slightly larger than our previous HAL cabin.

Further, all verandah cabins generally include a sitting area, a queen-sized signature Mariner’s Dream™ bed with a Euro-Top mattress, and a shower with premium massage showerheads.

Layout of the Holland America Rotterdam Verandah Cabin

At first glance, we were happy to see that this stateroom had the same traditional cruise cabin layout to which we have become accustomed.

Immediately upon entering our Holland America Rotterdam Verandah Cabin, the bathroom was to the right. Across from the bathroom was a wall of closets/drawers.

The closet included 2 clothes bars with plenty of hangers and a few shelves. Immediately next to the closet was more cabinetry that housed the safe, mini-fridge, and some additional storage drawers.

Beyond the bathroom and closet, our queen-sized bed was on the forward wall (facing aft) with the television across from it. There was also a small nightstand on each side of the bed with two small drawers and a power and USB outlet on each side.

Continuing past the bed, there was a small sitting area which contained a loveseat and coffee table.

Across from the seating area was the desk. It was somewhat smaller in size. Though, it did contain three drawers for storage and plenty of additional outlets.

Finally, there was our generously sized balcony with two lounge chairs, ottomans, and a small table. For our second trip on Holland America Line, it seems that the balconies are slightly larger on this line when compared to megaships from other contemporary lines.

Inside Our Holland America Rotterdam Verandah Cabin

Bathroom

The bathroom in our Holland America Rotterdam Verandah Cabin was modern and elegant. While still a cruise ship bathroom, it was slightly larger than typical.

The vanity area had enough storage with three small shelves off to one side and on-wall soap and lotion dispensers on the other. Holland America gets two thumbs up for the liquid soap dispensers as this is something we always miss on cruise ships.

The shower too was roomier. With a glass shower door, full-sized dispensers of shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel, and a shave bar, this shower is certainly an upgrade.

Main Cabin Area

The closet configuration provided plenty of storage for the two of us on a 7-day cruise. With the combination of hangers and shelves, we had more than enough room to stow away all of our clothing. In addition, Holland America includes bathrobes and beach towels for all guests.

The only complaint is that the drawers below the mini-fridge were not very deep, so they were not very useful to us.

The bed offered plenty of comfort during our trip. We had no issues falling asleep at night. The upgraded bedding and linens meant we were able to unwind each evening in comfort.

The sitting area was adequate in size. The loveseat provided enough space for two adults. Though, the table was a tad bit small and difficult to maneuver a room service tray.

Above the sofa, there were additional storage compartments. While these would have been great to store belongings, these compartments housed the life jackets.

The desk served mostly as my spot to get ready each day. While not a lot of counter space, we were able to make do with our trusty over-the-door shoe organizer. We always pack one for a cruise to store toiletries and other small items.

Of course, the desk housed the hair dryer. There were also a number of outlets for which we were thankful. There were three U.S. outlets, two European outlets, and 1 USB outlet located here.

Balcony

The balcony in this Holland America Rotterdam Verandah Cabin was certainly deeper than the balconies you get on most mega-ships. There was enough space for us to use the adjustable loungers and ottomans.

We always enjoy watching sail-ins and sail-outs from our balcony. We also spent quite on bit of time on our balcony during our day in St. Thomas while Hubby worked his full-time job.

Recap of the Holland America Rotterdam Verandah Cabin Review

Similar to our previous experience on Holland America Line, our verandah stateroom on Deck 6 was the ideal accommodations for our 7-day Caribbean cruise on the line’s brand new ship.

The bed was comfortable, and the space was adequate. There was also plenty of storage, and we appreciated the number of power outlets.

Our cabin had easy access to the stairs and elevators, with the public areas only a few decks below or above us.

The cabin certainly had a more modern and upscale feel with a neutral color palette and beachy wood tones. The bathroom too felt more elegant with white and silver finishes.

Overall, we would highly recommend this Holland America Line Rotterdam Verandah Cabin regardless of the cruise itinerary.
