Dine at a Specialty Restaurant
On Norwegian Getaway, there are no set dining times. You can eat wherever you want, whenever you want during your cruise. This freestyle approach will allow you to sample the variety of dining options offered. Among these dining options are the line’s signature specialty restaurants including the steak house Cagney’s, the Italian restaurant La Cucina, the Brazilian Churrascaria Moderno, the French inspired Le Bistro, and the hibachi experience at Teppanyaki. Reservations are recommended, and if you plan on dining at a few of these restaurants, you might want to consider purchasing a specialty dining package.

Take a Front Row Seat at the Noodle Bar
The Shanghai Noodle Bar found on Breakaway class ships is a complimentary dining venue open most nights for dinner 5:30-10pm. This Asian inspired restaurant offers counter seating around an open kitchen, where you can order a variety of Chinese noodles and wok-cooked dishes. If you don’t want to spend money on specialty dining, this Noodle Bar is a great alternative to the main dining room. We suggest ordering several dishes and sharing among your party.

Savor a Handcrafted Mojito
After eating all of those delicious meals, you are going to get thirsty. Luckily, Norwegian Getaway has plenty of bars and lounges to grab a drink. One of our favorites is the Sugarcane Mojito Bar. This Miami-inspired watering hole muddles up one of a kind mojitos from its specialty drink menu. The prime locations in 678 Ocean Place and outside on the Waterfront, combined with handcrafted drinks, make the Sugarcane Mojito Bar one of the best hang outs day or night. Be sure to stop by and sample these crafty concoctions and enjoy the true Miami flavor.

Waste Away at Margaritaville at Sea
After debuting on Norwegian Escape and becoming a quick cruiser favorite, Margaritaville at Sea was added to Norwegian Getaway. This a la carte lunch spot is an open air venue inspired by the life and lyrics of Jimmy Buffett. With a menu offering snacks, salads, and sandwiches, you will certainly find something to suit your palette. We recommend the Volcano nachos, piled high with all the fixings, and a Cheeseburger in Paradise. After dining here once, you might find yourself going back for seconds. We did!

It’s 5 O’ Clock Somewhere
While dining at Margaritaville at Sea, who’s to blame you for ordering a specialty margarita or boat drink at the Chill Bar located within the restaurant. With parrothead favorites like the Who’s to Blame, License to Chill, and Incommunicado, you might want to sample one of every drink on the menu. Don’t worry, these drinks are covered in the ultimate beverage package. There are seats available at the bar if you chose to visit the restaurant just for drinks instead of food. After all, it’s 5 o’ clock somewhere!

In keeping with the Jimmy Buffett partnership, Norwegian Cruise Line’s new private island in Harvest Caye, Belize features a 2-story Landshark Bar and Grill. Here, you can relax on the upper deck, chill in the Beer Garden, or grab your very own stool at the swim up bar. What could be better than spending your day in this private oasis and never having to leave the water? Of course, you will have to get back on the ship eventually.

While visiting this new private island destination, there is much more to explore than the restaurants, beach, and pools. The thrill seekers will love the Sky Trail ropes course and the Flighthouse zipline. Fly through Harvest Caye on 2 adrenaline packed ziplines, the Lagoon Adventure Run and the Double Beach Run- a 3,000 foot long tandem “superman” zipline. Offering a more freestyle approach to cruising, Norwegian Getaway does not have your standard “formal nights”. Though, on night two of most 7-night cruises, Norwegians can enjoy “dress up or not night”. If you like to get fancy, then dress to the nines, take a couple professional portraits, perhaps even one with the Captain, and enjoy your big night out. You never know where the evening will take you. Broadway shows, dueling pianos, comedy shows, dancing, and so much more await you.

Take in a Broadway Show
Speaking of Broadway shows, Norwegian Getaway offers 2 hit shows that are available for pre-booking prior to your cruise. Million Dollar Quartet is a dramatization of an actual jam session involving Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, and Cal Perkins that occurred on December 4, 1956. If all the energy from these shows puts you in the dancing mood, then let loose beneath the stars at one of the many nighttime parties held at Spice H20. From the popular Glow Party, to the Caribbean Party and 80’s Party, you are sure to have a blast at this venue inspired by the summer beach parties on the island of Ibiza. Laugh it Up
If dancing is not your thing, then spend the evening laughing it up at the Headliner’s Comedy Club. This small venue features 2 comedians, presented by the Levity Entertainment group, that rotate through 7pm, 9pm, and 11pm time slots several nights of your cruise. These shows are available for booking only once onboard the ship. We recommend securing your time slot on embarkation day as the shows do book up quickly and standby lines can get quite long. Of note, the 11pm comedy show is adult only.

Sing Us a Song, You’re the Piano Man
On alternate nights, the Headliner’s Comedy Club also serves as the Howl at the Moon dueling piano bar. Request a song, sing along, or just sit back and enjoy the tunes and comedic banter between the piano players. After all, we’re all in the mood for a melody. No reservations are required for Howl at the Moon, and you can come and go as you please. The artists play in scheduled time blocks taking intermittent breaks throughout the evening, so pop in for a song or stay the entire evening. The choice is yours.

Be Mystified by the Illusionarium
If you are looking for one of a kind entertainment on Norwegian Getaway, you should reserve seats for the dinner show in the Illusionarium (additional costs apply- $24.99 and $29.99). Admittedly, the experience is more about the show than the dinner. The props, video dome on the ceiling, and theming set the stage for a Vegas style production. I am really looking forward to my first cruise with my boyfriend the first week of March 2020!! He has cruised a few times in the past but it has been about 15 years since his last one. I have never cruised so I am extremely excited but just a little nervous. The ship description and pictures look amazing!! I cant wait! 35 days!!

I have always been a Royal Carribean gal, but my husband and I decided to try Norwegian with friends and their kids in March 2020. I already notice differences in terms of how the Guest Services Staff, and the Excursion Staff treat customers that book with a 3rd Party Preferred vendor, like Costco Travel in our case. I feel the difference when I call in. Both cruise lines are vastly different in many ways. Not always in a good way, not always in a bad way. It’s just different. That’s all I can say. Make your own judgement, and if this is your first cruise you will not have much to compare it too, so just enjoy the ride. Cruising is fun no matter what cruise line!
