The largest cruise ship of 2017 has finally arrived. MSC Cruises’ MSC Meraviglia has set sail on her maiden voyage. Christened earlier this week by acting legend Sophia Loren, the ship has its own appeal as well. So this week, we give you an inside look at this new ship. Bigger Is Better

This impressive ship is the largest in MSC Cruises’ growing fleet. Rivaling other mega ships at 171K gross tons, Meraviglia is among the largest ships in the world. The 5,700 guests sailing on the ship will find plenty to do onboard.

For those sun worshipers, you can spend all day in your bathing suit. With some of the most deck space on any modern ship, MSC Meraviglia has a lounge chair with your name on it. Not to mention, there are also four pools, four waterslides, and an aqua park to help you stay cool as you soak up the rays.

For those looking for some thrills, the ships offers plenty of onboard excitement. Some of the most high tech activities at sea can be found below the pool deck. These include a  F1 racing simulator, and a 4D cinema, and virtual reality games which are sure to provide plenty of adrenaline-filled fun. For cruisers looking for a more relaxing experience, there is also the MSC Aurea Spa where you can indulge in various treatments.

No matter how you choose to spend your days on MSC Meraviglia, you will want to find some time to stroll the massive indoor Galleria promenade, complete with the largest LED Sky Screen that will feature interactive displays. There is something to enjoy on this open indoor deck at all times of the day. You can browse the onboard shops to take a break from the heat, grab a bite to eat or drink, or even watch one of the various parades that march down this main artery of the ship.

What’s For Dinner

The ship offers the traditional Mediterranean-influenced cuisine you would expect from the brand at the complimentary venues, along with signature specialty restaurants. As always, cruisers are welcome to enjoy the Marketplace Buffet for a more casual setting. This venue is almost always open, serving meals throughout the day and evening with options from around the world. The main dining rooms offer traditional, My Time Dining, and other flexible options. So, seasoned cruisers and more free spirited travelers alike will find dining on the ship to suit their tastes.

For those special occasions, the four specialty restaurants feature distinct flavors from culinary masters. Carve into one of the choice cuts of beef at the American style steakhouse Butcher’s Cut, savor some of the “Best Sushi at Sea” at Kaito Sushi Bar, or enjoy dinner and a show at the Teppanyaki grill. Ristorante Italiano, from global food brand Eataly, also offers specialty dining options from casual to the experiential.

Up All Night

Several entertainment options will keep you up until the wee hours of the night, including six signature shows that were designed for the ship’s main theater. Among the new productions are the magical Crudella and the Spanish dance spectacle, Paz. Be prepared for a completely new show each evening of your cruise.

In addition to the nightly entertainment, the ship will feature two productions of Cirque de Soleil in the Carousel Lounge. The Lounge is the first space on a cruise ship designed specifically for this modern day circus. These two different shows have been designed exclusively for the ship, each with its own story line, costumes, and atmosphere. With multiple showings, guests should have no problem catching the auditory adventure of Sonor or the imaginative, artistic journey of Viaggio.

We are known for our “drink around the ship”, where we grab a signature drink at each bar on a ship. If you are going to follow in our footsteps on MSC Meraviglia, we hope you have some sturdy sea legs. The ship boasts a total of 20 bars and lounges to suit all tastes. you can enjoy the ocean vistas and signature cocktails of the Horizon Bar. Or, catch a game at the high octane Sports Bar. Not to mention  the sophisticated Champagne lounge, and the authentic English pub. With several additional options, you can choose the venue that best fits your mood.

Even the ship’s Horizon Pool becomes an outdoor hot spot in the evenings featuring dance parties and entertainment that will certainly have you moving all night long.

Family Friendly Ship

Those cruising with little ones will appreciate the kids activities and areas designed for families on MSC Meraviglia. Several separate areas are available for children of all ages, featuring the latest in edutainment for your little ones. With 4D printing and other technologically enhanced activities and scheduled events, there is plenty to keep your kids occupied.

Continuing its partnership with Legos, the ship also includes various creative areas where kids can collaborate with one another in various games and activities featuring the popular brand. Teens have their own space too where they can control the music, book teen-only activities, and share their latest cruise adventures on social media.

While Meraviglia is currently sailing the Mediterranean, those over planners (i.e. cruisers like us) can look forward to this innovative ship heading to the Caribbean in 2019. Be on the lookout for those itineraries to be released soon.

    Totally Awesome….. Beautiful Ship. I regret that I as a 69 year old divorced Grandmother I cannot afford to experience such wonder. However, I am excited that this ship is available to others who can.
