Norwegian Prima's Inaugural Sailing Cancelled

Just today, Norwegian Cruise Line revealed some new spa and fitness offerings that would be introduced on Norwegian Prima when she debuted in August. Later today, we also learned that Norwegian Prima’s inaugural sailing on August 17, 2022 is cancelled due to “supply chain challenges”. This first sailing on Norwegian Prima was supposed to sail from Amsterdam, Netherlands to Reykjavik, Iceland ahead of the christening festivities with Katy Perry.

Given the unexpected circumstances, Norwegian Cruise Line is issuing a full refund to original form of payment automatically within 30 business days. In addition to the full refund, the cruise line is providing guests with a 25% discount off a future cruise. The 25% discount will be added to guests’ Latitudes accounts and available to use as of May 2, 2022. This discount must be applied by May 2, 2023 for any sailing through December 31, 2023.

Additionally, NCL is offering up to $300 per person for any air change fees if guests had already booked air accommodations.

So far, this is the only sailing cancelled. However, the first sailing now available to book on NCL’s website is a 10-day cruise departing on September 3, 2022.

There have been no updates on the christening ceremony planned for August 27, 2022 in Reykjavík, Iceland. Norwegian Prima will be the first major cruise ship christened in this Icelandic capital. The global popstar Katy Perry will serve as the godmother to this innovative new ship and is scheduled to perform at this event.

As Norwegian Cruise Line’s first new class of ships in nearly 10 years, Norwegian Prima will debut many new features and experiences. Norwegian Prima will be the first of six ships in this new class, debuting through 2027. This new ship has plans to make appearances in many locations as part of her inaugural season. After her transatlantic crossing, she will sail from New York, Galveston, and Miami before repositioning to her homeport of Port Canaveral in December 2022.
