The cruise lines have had a bit of a rough start to 2022 due to the new COVID variant. Given the rise in omicron cases both on land and at sea, cruise lines have needed to cancel select sailings recently. Last evening, Norwegian Cruise Line released a travel update in which it cancels more cruises.
Norwegian Cruise Line Recent Cancellations
If you have been following along with the cruise headlines, then you know that both Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean have announced cancellations of select sailings on select ships recently.
Norwegian Cruise Line recently ended an 11-day sailing on Norwegian Pearl early due to an increased number of COVID cases among crew. The cruise line also cancelled Norwegian Getaway sailings due to COVID related circumstances.
In addition to these two ships, Norwegian Cruise Line provided updates on additional ships in a travel advisory on January 5th. These ships included Norwegian Sky, Pride of America, Norwegian Jade, Norwegian Star, Norwegian Sun, and Norwegian Spirit.
While some cancellations appear due to COVID cases onboard the ship, others are related to newly imposed travel restrictions in destinations the NCL fleet visits across the globe.
Norwegian Cruise Line Cancels More Cruises
On January 11th, the cruise line provided another travel advisory impacting an additional 3 ships. Unfortunately, Norwegian Cruise Line cancels more cruises. This time, the impacted ships are Norwegian Dawn, Norwegian Escape, and Norwegian Joy.
The current full list of cancelled sailings are:
- Norwegian Pearl cruises with embarkation dates through and including January 17, 2022
- Dawn cruises with embarkation dates through and including January 18, 2022
- Getaway cruises with embarkation dates through and including January 19, 2022
- Escape cruises with embarkation dates through and including January 22, 2022
- Joy cruises with embarkation dates through and including January 22, 2022
- Sky cruises with embarkation dates through and including February 25, 2022
- Pride of America cruises with embarkation dates through and including February 26, 2022
- Norwegian Jade cruises with embarkation dates through and including March 3, 2022
- Star cruises with embarkation dates through and including March 19, 2022
- Sun cruises with embarkation dates through and including April 19, 2022
- Spirit cruises with embarkation dates through and including April 23, 2022
If your ship is not on the list, it is still sailing as planned. Norwegian Cruise Line states, “However, as the global public health environment continues to rapidly evolve and destinations around the world modify their travel requirements or implement new travel restrictions, it is possible that itineraries may need to be modified.”
Refunds for Recently Cancelled Cruises
Guests with a reservation on one of the affected cruises will automatically receive a refund in the original form of payment. For affected reservations paid via a previously issued Future Cruise Credit, guests will receive the full value of the FCC within 7 days.
Additionally, guests will receive a 10% off Future Cruise Credit automatically on their account. Guests can use this discount to make a booking any time through January 7, 2023 on any sailing through May 31, 2023. If guests used a previously issued 10% off FCC on this suspended reservation, they will get the FCC returned; however, a new one will not be issued.

I love NCL, but I can’t get this question answered. If a person has had covid in the past 90 days but can still test positive even though they don’t have covid any longer. What do they have to do to cruise? Do they need. Dr note or they just can’t go.
