Complimentary Holland America Nieuw Statendam Restaurants

There are several dining options on the list of Holland America Nieuw Statendam restaurants that are included in your cruise fare. These include the main dining room, the Lido Market buffet, New York Pizza & Deli, and the Dive-In burger bar to name a few.

Holland America Line Canada and New England Cruise Review

With so many great offerings, you certainly do not have to pay extra for dining (if you don’t want to). Though, Holland America ships also offer specialty restaurants that are worth a try.

The Dining Room (Decks 2 and 3)

The Dining Room, Holland America Line’s main dining room, is located on Decks 2 and 3 on Nieuw Statendam. Guests can choose the option of traditional dining with a dedicated table and waitstaff each evening on Deck 3 or Dine Anytime which is on Deck 2.

With the Dine Anytime option, guests can dine at different times each evening from 5:15 to 9 pm. Or, with traditional dining, the early seating is 5:15 pm and the main seating is 8 pm.

The Dining Room is open most days for breakfast from about 7:30 to 9 am. However, it is only open for a sit-down lunch on sea days from around 12 to 1 pm.

Like most cruise lines, the MDR offers a multi-course rotational dinner menu that changes nightly. Regardless of whether you opt for traditional dining or Dine Anytime, these menus are the same. The breakfast menu is also the same for the duration of the cruise.

On a traditional 7-night cruise, there are two formal or “dressy” nights. The order of the menus and when these formal nights occur vary based on the ports of call.

Below is the list of menus from our recent 7-night CNE sailing on Nieuw Statendam.

Of note, those who upgrade to the exclusive Club Orange program also have a private dining venue on Deck 2 for breakfast and dinner with an expanded menu.

Grand Dutch Cafe (Deck 3)

The Grand Dutch Cafe is quite popular on Holland America Line ships. Inspired by the cruise line’s Dutch heritage, this upscale bar and café located on the Promenade deck is the perfect spot to enjoy a specialty coffee and a sweet treat.

This venue serves the brand’s signature Rotterdam 1873 coffee blend, along with other favorites like pea soup, apple pie, and Dutch pancakes. Of course, there is also a full bar, so you can order up a cocktail or perhaps a Dutch beer.

While the food items are complimentary, the beverages at the Grand Dutch Cafe will cost extra money.

Dive-In (Deck 9)

In our opinion, the poolside Dive-In is one of the best burger bars at sea. This casual and quick-service eatery is one of our go-to spots for lunch or sea day snacks. This grill serves up made to order burgers, fries, chicken sandwiches, and even Nathan’s hot dogs. All items are freshly prepared and always served warm.

The Dive-In is open most days from 11:30 am to 6 pm. You can even place your order via the Navigator app, and it will send you a push notification when it is ready for pick up.

Lido Market (Deck 9)

The Lido Market is Holland America Line’s cruise ship buffet. This casual spot is open most of the day serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. You can get breakfast from around 6:30/7 am to 10/10:30 am. Lunch is served from around 11:30 am to 2 pm each day, with select stations remaining open from 2 to 4 pm for a late lunch.

Dinner is available in the Lido Market from 5:30 to 8 pm each evening, re-opening from 10:30 to 11:30 pm for snacks. With selections from baked goods, salads, warm entrees, and other international cuisine, you will never go hungry on your Nieuw Statendam cruise.

For breakfast, you can enjoy custom omelets, waffles, crepes, continental items, and all your other breakfast staples. Lunch and dinner options include sandwiches, custom salads, a carving station with other hot items, Italian and Asian Distant Lands selections ranging from pasta to wok creations, and so much more. We particularly enjoy the Asian Distant Lands options and the Mexican selections.

Specialty Restaurants on Holland America Nieuw Statendam

Further, while Holland America Nieuw Statendam does offer a number of complimentary dining venues, it also features a few specialty restaurants. These include everything from a signature steakhouse to Pan Asian cuisine.

These specialty restaurants do all have up-charges. Though, they are certainly worth it in our opinion.

If you plan to dine at any of these restaurants, you should make reservations pre-cruise, as popular dining times do fill up quickly.

Pinnacle Grill (Deck 2)

The Pinnacle Grill is Holland America Line’s specialty steakhouse. This restaurant’s menu features signature cuts of beef and innovative recipes from award-winning chef, David Burke.

For appetizers, guests can enjoy options like shrimp cocktail, crab cakes, lobster bisque, or the exclusive clothesline candied bacon. Entrees include a wide variety of steak cuts, in addition to a select number of other classics and seafood options.

Don’t forget to save room for the sides or delicious desserts either like the key lime pie, baked Alaska, or crème brulee.

Currently, the up-charge to dine at the Pinnacle Grill is $39 per person plus 18% gratuity for dinner and $15 plus 18% for lunch.

Rudi’s Sel de Mer (Deck 2)

Rudi’s Sel de Mer is Holland America Line’s French-influenced seafood brasserie. This menu features classic French and seafood dishes created by Master Chef Rudi Sodamin.

For starters, guests can enjoy the heaping Fruit de Mer ($25 supplement), escargot, calamari, and more. For entrées, you can indulge in a Maine lobster, jumbo crab legs, or bouillabaisse. The menu also offers non-seafood options like steak frites, cheese soufflé, and coq au vin.

Again, don’t forget to save room for dessert, like the signature salzburger nockerl.

The current onboard pricing to dine at this venue is $49 plus 18% gratuity.

Gelato (Deck 9)

Located on the Lido deck is an a la carte gelato shop. This venue serves up various flavors of this European dessert that is all fresh made onboard the ship each day. It also serves milkshakes and popiscles for a nominal fee.

For just $2 for a 4 oz. cup, how can you pass up this sweet treat?

Canaletto (Deck 9)

Canaletto is Holland America Line’s specialty Italian restaurant. Tucked away in an alcove near the Lido Market, this venue serves all the Italian classics in a casual setting.

The menu features a large variety of small and large plates, as well as daily specials like chicken parm and osso bucco.

For small plates, you can’t go wrong with the buffalo mozzarella, grilled calamari, or meatballs. Entrees include everything from lasagna, to short rib gnocchi, homemade pasta, and a New York strip steak.

Of course, this specialty restaurant also serves up classic Italian desserts like affogato, tiramisu, and an orange ricotta tart.

The current up-charge to dine at this venue is $19 plus 18% gratuity.

Canaletto Menu

Tamarind (Deck 10)

Located on Deck 10 aft, Tamarind is Holland America Line’s Pan Asian specialty restaurant, and one of our personal favorites. This venue serves up Far East dishes alongside amazing ocean vistas and some delectable cocktails.

From appetizers like shrimp and lobster potstickers to five spice ribs, and entrees like Szechuan shrimp and red curry chicken, the menu is packed with flavor. While we are not usually fans of Asian desserts, the Yuzu cheesecake is quite good too.

Not to mention, you can also order sushi from the nearby Nami menu at a la carte prices to supplement this already delicious meal.

Currently, the up-charge to dine at Tamarind is $29 plus 18% gratuity.

Nami Sushi (Deck 10)

Finally, Nami Sushi features recipes from Master Sushi Chef Andy Matsuda.

Located within the Tamarind restaurant, this menu includes a large selection of sake cocktails, sushi and sashimi, and select items off Tamarind’s menu at a la carte pricing.

The hubby particularly enjoys the crispy lobster tempura and soft shell crab signature rolls.
