Dining reservations open up 90 days prior to your sailing, and this restaurant fills up quickly. If you are a regular Norwegian Cruise Line passenger, this probably comes as no surprise. If you are new to the cruise line, or to cruising in general, you may be wondering why. What is it about this restaurant that makes it so popular? Well, we are happy to share our take on Why You Need to Book Cagney’s Steakhouse on Norwegian Getaway.
Why You Need to Book Cagney’s Steakhouse on Norwegian Getaway
The Location
Nestled at the back of the ship, Cagney’s Steakhouse offers some amazing vistas. Enjoy a sunset or gaze at the night sky while savoring your sophisticated, American steakhouse experience. If you prefer to get even closer to the outdoors, the restaurant even offers al fresco dining on the Waterfront. Feel the ocean breeze as you cut into your perfectly cooked steak and still get the same superb service as if you were in the dining room.

It is Part of the Specialty Dining Package
Now that most of Norwegian Cruise Line’s specialty restaurants are priced a la carte, the value of getting a Specialty Dining Package can not be understated, especially at Cagney’s Steakhouse. Using one of your meal credits, with no upcharge, you can dine on as many starters, sides, and desserts as you want, plus order any one entree. If you somehow have room for a second entree, there is an additional fee. Either way, the price for this refined restaurant is a bargain compared to prices of upscale steakhouses on land.

An Abundance of Appetizers
While you are going to want to save room for the main course, it is going to be a battle. Once you have a look a the menu, your eyes will be fixed on the number of great starters. How will you decide between the lump crab cake or the colossal chilled shrimp? Debate between the wedge salad and the lobster bisque, then there is even the slow-roasted pork belly. It is truly a foodie’s dilemma. Good thing you do not need to decide; you can order them all and then take your time savoring every last bite.

Perfectly Seared Cuts of Beef
Okay, we have now come to the main event. This is a steakhouse after all. From the tender and succulent filet mignon, to the eye-catching tomahawk rib chop, or the equally impressive porterhouse, this is a carnivore’s paradise. Even still, for those who might not be huge fans of steak, there are also premium seafood options available. Couple these with a selection of 15 different sides dishes featuring vegetables, potatoes, and other options, it is truly a feast fit for DB.

One of the only restaurants with a dress code on the ship, it is worth upgrading from shorts to khakis for this dining experience. Once you are done, you can grab a drink at the equally swanky Prime Meridian bar, located right next door to the restaurant. Or, head out to one of the other 20 lounges onboard. How easy/likely is it to get reservations on board? My wife and I were a little late to the game booking our specific dates (travel agent was able to lock in prices for a set window, and my wife had to figure out when she could take off work), and by the time we were booked, there are no reservations available for the duration of our cruise… I’ve heard from some people that you don’t even need a reservation and can just walk up, but I also want to make sure we eat here.

Of all the restaurants on Norwegian, Cagney’s is my favorite. Have 2 cruises coming up in 2018 on Epic and Getaway and have already purchased my specialty packages

This was our favorite specialty dining hands down on the Escape! I had the beet appetizer and the lobster bisque and they were both to die for. Also the French fries should NOT be missed. I’m totally blanking what my main course was but I know it was fantastic.

Thanks for the feedback. Cagney’s is one of our favorite specialty restaurants on Norwegian Cruise Line. We dine there on Escape as well and had an equally impressive meal. When is your next cruise? Appreciate the comment!

My next cruise is only in my dreams for now! Hopefully within the next couple of years, we’ve only been on the one so far but are totally hooked on cruising.
