Booking the Thrill Waterpark

We knew that we wanted to do the Thrill Waterpark as soon as we booked our Navigator of the Seas cruise. So, we monitored our pre-cruise planner looking for deals. For our particular sailing, we noticed that the prices for all of the tours seemed to fluctuate greatly. When we logged in at one point and saw a combo deal for the waterpark and zip line at $75 a person, slightly more than a full day admission to just the waterpark, we could not pass up the deal!

In general, prices range from $59 to $79 a person for a full day pass to the waterpark. The pricing does vary by sailing date and ship. Also, prices on the ship will certainly be more expensive than those in the cruise planner. So, if you definitely want to do this shore excursion, we recommend booking pre-cruise.

When booking, we scheduled our Zip Line tour in the morning to give us as much time as possible to explore the island and fully enjoy the waterpark.

Inside Thrill Waterpark at Perfect Day at CocoCay

Once you exit the ship, you can not miss the bright and massive Thrill Waterpark sign and tower greeting you near the main entrance. Royal Caribbean also provides you with a map of the island and the waterpark.

Entering the park is easy, as you simply swipe your Seapass card. Throughout the day, you can leave and come back as often as you want, but just make sure to have your Seapass card with you at all times.

As you enter, there are restrooms, changing rooms, and lockers to your immediate right. The good news is that all lockers are complimentary! Yes, there is no up-charge to store your gear while at the park. Still, there is a limited number of lockers at this location. So, make sure to acquire one early.

If you continue on the main walkway, that makes a U through the park, the wave pool is to your right. Here, there are many loungers with umbrellas that are all complimentary. If you would like to reserve a cabana while on Perfect Day at CocoCay, there are some located in this area as well as near the waterslide towers. The loungers are all first come first serve, so make sure to claim your spot early.

Continuing along the pathway, you will encounter the adventure pool next. This pool is family friendly with obstacles and challenges for the little ones to enjoy. Behind the adventure pool, there is a Snack Shack and another large area of loungers without umbrellas. During our visit, there was no one in this section!

Venturing further into the park, the Daredevil’s Tower of waterslides is to the left of the adventure pool, while the Splash Summit tower is slightly beyond and to the right of this pool. Both areas also have loungers and cabanas.

While we had no issues finding loungers with shade, it is possible that the park could reach capacity with multiple or larger ships in port.

Dining and Drinks at the Park

It wouldn’t be a review of Perfect Day at CocoCay if we didn’t mention the food and beverage options. Within the Thrill Waterpark, there is a Snack Shack. This venue was open from 11:00 am to 4:30 pm during our trip. This quick serve restaurant is complimentary.

The Snack Shack offers up a tempting selection of small bites including the Crispy Chicken Sandwich, the Shack Burger, French Fries, Mozzarella Sticks, and even Funnel Cake. The food was fresh and tasty, and there was a very short wait.

If you are looking for more food options, you can exit the park and head to the nearby Skippers Grill, one of two buffets located on the island. This restaurant offers a more diverse menu of grill favorites, sandwiches, salads, and a taco stand. In theory, you could grab food from this buffet and walk back to your loungers in the waterpark.

There are no bars in the waterpark. Though, we did see some waitstaff making the rounds. We were able to grab some bottles of water and did witness other cruisers ordering alcoholic beverages from the servers.

Captain Jacks Venue

Captain Jack’s is also not far from the entrance of the waterpark, so you could easily grab a drink yourself and relax in this shaded venue for a bit. Your Deluxe Beverage Package works everywhere on Perfect Day at CocoCay, so be sure to grab at least one signature Coco Loco.

Thrill Waterpark Attractions

The Thrill Waterpark offers four unique attraction areas.

The largest wave pool in the Caribbean serves up some impressive waves. The pool oscillates throughout the day mixing up waves with more calm waters. There are a few water features in the front of the pool like water canons to occupy the little ones.

The Adventure Pool offers several challenges to test balance and coordination. These include rope swings, a “rock climbing” wall, and some lily pads. While technically the pool is open to all cruisers (those under 48″ are required to wear a life vest), we found mostly kids and teens using this attraction.

The two main attractions are the waterslide towers. The family tower is called the Splash Summit. This area contains three unique slides. During our stay, the average wait during the midday was about 30-40 minutes for each slide. Later in the day, the wait was less than 10 minutes.

The Splash Speedway are headfirst mat slides that offer a fun competition between you and up to three of your fiends. I am not going to brag, but I was the first one down these slides.

There is also the Twister, which is a flume style tube ride. One or two riders are able to take the plunge. For two riders, the max weight is 550 lbs.

Of the three slides here, the Princess and I enjoyed the Sling Shot the most, which is the boomerang style slide. This raft ride accommodates up to four riders (max weight is 550 lbs), so it is great for families.

Last but not least, there is the Daredevil’s Tower. These speed body slides are the most thrilling in the entire park. There are a total of 5 different slides. Of course, I rode them all multiple times. The Princess decided to sit these out as she is not a big fan of waterslides. She likes to save her adrenaline rush for rollercoasters.

Among my favorite slides was the Dueling Demons. These drop slides launch you on a vertical plunge that is 75 feet long. You definitely get some serious speed with these two slides.

The Screeching Serpent is another vertical slide. While this one is only 50 feet long, it is a straight plunge. Don’t let the height fool you, this slide serves up plenty of thrills.

The other two slides including the digitally enhanced Green Mamba and the twin Manta Raycers are also fun, with very little wait times.

All said and done though, the main attraction is at the very top. The tallest waterslide in North America, the Daredevil’s Peak is certainly unlike any waterslide I have ever experienced.

Complete with special effects, this attraction rivals thrill rides you find at amusement parks. This slide will have the longest line. At peak times, the queue easily surpasses an hour wait. I waited 45 minutes and 15 minutes, respectively. I recommend heading straight to this slide when the park opens, or waiting until later in the day (after 2:30 pm) for the shortest waits.

Recap of Thrill Waterpark at Perfect Day at CocoCay Review

Our full day at the Thrill Waterpark was filled with plenty of fun and sun. The waterpark is a full-fledged attraction that is completely separate from the rest of the island. While there are still plenty of complimentary activities on Perfect Day at CocoCay, this park is a must if you love waterslides.

Especially given our pre-cruise admission price, it was certainly worth the cost to us. There are a variety of activities for adults and children. Most of the slides require children to be 48″ tall. The staff does check to make sure your little ones are of proper height.

The weight limits are also enforced. Single riders can not be over 300 lbs. For multi-rider slides, combined weight is 550 lbs. Yes, there are scales at the loading platforms.

There were lifeguards at the Wave Pool and Adventure Pool. There also appeared to be enough staff around the park to provide support and assistance. The Snack Shack was open for an extended portion of the day with little wait times for food.

Once in the park, there is no nickel and diming. Several loungers with umbrellas are available at no costs, and there are free locker rentals.

You do need to bring towels from the ship and bring them back with you at the end of the day. We wished there was a towel station in the park, so you could just drop them off when you are done. However, there is at least a towel exchange in the waterpark if you want to swap a wet towel for a new, dry one.

Overall, we highly recommend the Thrill Waterpark and think it is a game changer for cruise line private islands.
