For our recent cruise on Princess Cruises’ brand-new Star Princess, we stayed in a deluxe balcony stateroom. Given that Princess’ Sphere-class ships feature some of the most spacious cabins in the fleet, we were eager to see how this Star Princess balcony room would compare to other ships we’ve sailed on recently. Did it deliver on comfort and space? Find out in our latest Star Princess balcony room review.

Our Star Princess Balcony Room
Since we were hosted by Princess Cruises on this preview sailing, we were assigned to stateroom 10128, a DE Deluxe Balcony cabin. Reviewing the deck plans, this portside balcony cabin is located forward of the forward elevators on Deck 10.
When it comes to balcony cabins on Star Princess, there are 4 different categories: Cove Balcony, Deluxe Balcony, Premium Deluxe Balcony, and Sanctuary Balcony. According to Princess Cruises’ website, a Deluxe Balcony stateroom on this ship is approximately 200 square feet with a 35-square-foot balcony and sleeps 2 guests.
This is the most common balcony type on Star Princess. Offering considerably more space than standard balcony cabins on other ships in the Princess fleet, we appreciated the extra room and thoughtful layout.
Being on Deck 10, cabin 10128 is close to many of the indoor amenities, with a majority of the dining and entertainment venues a short walk or elevator ride down to Decks 7 through 9. It was still a quick ride up to the top deck attractions as well. Plus, with the new smart elevators, catching a ride is never an issue.

While similar in size, a Cove Balcony is found on lower decks and features a more enclosed balcony setup and a Premium Deluxe Balcony features a larger balcony. The Sanctuary Balcony is also similar in size but comes with all the perks of staying in the Sanctuary Collection, like the Princess Premier package and access to an exclusive sundeck and restaurant.
No matter which cabin category you choose, the rooms on Star Princess feature modern styling with elegant finishes.
Layout of Our Star Princess Balcony Room
Immediately entering our Star Princess balcony room, the bathroom was to the left. Across from the bathroom was a full closet providing ample storage, along with an additional storage area with shelves and drawers.
Beyond the bathroom and closet was the bed, with the sofa and desk closer to the balcony. There was a small nightstand on each side of the bed as well.
Finally, there was the balcony. At approximately 35 square feet, it was an adequate space for two chairs and a small table.
The cabin features light wood tones and pops of nautical blue colors, creating an inviting and sophisticated atmosphere.

Inside Our Star Princess Balcony Room
Bathroom
The bathroom in this Star Princess balcony room is a welcomed upgrade. It’s more spacious than typical cruise ship bathrooms and features a glass shower door instead of the dreaded shower curtain still found on many Princess ships.
There is ample counter space and storage, with shelves for toiletries both above and below the sink. There’s even body lotion and hand wash dispensers and motion sensor night lights.
The shower, while featuring a glass door and marble finishes, is still a tad narrow. Though, it does include standard amenities with shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel dispensers.

Closet
The closet in this stateroom offered more than sufficient storage for our 3-day cruise. The full closet features a full-length clothes bar, with half of the space perfect for hanging longer dresses and pants. The other half has four shelves perfect for store packing cubes with undergarments or shoes.
An additional storage area nearest the entrance features three drawers, 3 additional shelves, and the safe. This space also works well for storing packing cubes and shoes.

Main Cabin Area
The main cabin area of this Star Princess balcony room makes efficient use of space. The bed was extremely comfortable. We had no issues falling asleep after our long days and nights on the ship.
There are small nightstands on each side of the bed for some additional storage, along with one USB, one USB-C, and one US outlet on each side. Across from the bed is the television. We appreciated the outlets near the bed for charging our phones at night—one thing many cruise ships still lack.
The sitting area includes a sofa that was a comfortable spot for us to unwind during the afternoon or enjoy some room service breakfast. Though, there is no coffee table–only one small side table.
The desk completes the arrangement, with additional shelves to one side for storage and plenty of outlets (a total of 3 US, 2 USB, 2 USB-C, & 2 European). You’ll also find a Drybar hairdryer and the mini-fridge here.

Balcony
The balcony in this Star Princess cabin measures approximately 35 square feet and provides a nice outdoor area with two upright chairs and a small table that were on par with what you’d find on most cruise lines. It’s always a great spot to enjoy the ocean breezes and watch our sail into and out of ports of call.

Recap of Our Star Princess Balcony Room Review
We were more than happy with our Star Princess balcony room as it is certainly an evolution from the previous Princess cabins and the most modern in the fleet. It provided ample space, storage, and comfort during our trip, along with direct access to ocean views and fresh air. When compared to other cruise lines, Princess’ Sphere-class ships offer a competitive edge when it comes to size and price.

When it comes to location, this cabin is pretty far forward. While it didn’t bother us, those who are prone to motion sickness may want to consider something more midship. However, we never experienced any noise issues during our stay.
For the price, a Star Princess deluxe balcony cabin is well worth the upgrade. It provides the perfect mix of size and value, offering all the necessary amenities and access to a balcony without breaking the budget. Although, even the more modest accommodations on Star Princess are roomier and better appointed than you’ll find on most other ships in the fleet. So, you really can’t go wrong with any of the accommodations on the ship.
