Quantum of the Seas: Dynamic Dining Review Chic Restaurant

For our second night of this 8 night cruise onboard Quantum of the Seas, we had reservations at Chic. This modern menu contained many familiar cruise dishes, like crab cakes and Caesar salad, but these dishes were slightly different than what is typically found in the main dining room of a cruise ship.

Unlike the first night, we had no wait times to get seated at this venue for our 6:15pm reservation. There were only a few people ahead of us, and we were promptly seated at a table for two. However, we did notice a long line at Grande, the restaurant right next to Chic, as well as another long line at Silk. Over the duration of the cruise, the lines at all restaurants did seem to vary, and we attributed this to different reservation times for cruisers based on the show schedule. We choose to eat every night between 6:00pm and 6:30pm, as that is our preferred dining time.

This restaurant had more of a main dining room feel than Silk, with decor similar to that found on other ships.

Quantum of the Seas: Dynamic Dining Review Chic Restaurant

Our waiter, Dussan, was a very formal waiter. We were promptly greeted, and he managed our table the entire night, with no assistant waiter or even a food runner. He seemed very well organized and informed about the menu. Off all the servers we encountered over the eight days on Quantum of the Seas, he was by far the most knowledgeable about the restaurant and cuisine. We started the night with some french rolls and bread sticks, with an olive spread that was a great accompaniment to these traditional bread basket items. Dynamic Dining Review Chic

The drink menu here had a lot of great options, but given the service, we were only able to try one drink each. This ended up being the trend during the course of the week as there were no bar servers in the dining rooms. I opted for the Lazy Dayz, and the wife ordered the Hepburn.

For appetizers, the Princess ordered the Fresh Mozzarella and Beets salad. Luckily, there were very few beets and mostly mozzarella cheese, what she really wanted. The cheese was a different consistency than she expected, not as firm as the mozzarella in a typical tomato and mozzarella salad to which she is accustomed.

I, of course, continued my trend of ordering 2 appetizers, the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake and the Pastrami Cured Salmon. Both were scrumptious. The crab cake was very crispy with a good mix of crab and bread crumb stuffing with a tangy mustard which was the perfect accompaniment. I have to say this was one of the best starters that I have ever had on a cruise ship!

The salmon was served as a roll, and was much larger than I expected. Even I could not finish it as I wanted to save room for the entrée and dessert. The mixture of smoked salmon and the flavored pastrami paired well with each other. I would definitely recommended trying both of these appetizers.

The clean-up service between courses here at Chic was slightly better than Silk, but still rather slow. Our waiter was doing the best that he could managing the tables in his section. It did appear that the restaurants on Quantum staggered the sections based on the crowds as our section was pretty full, while other sections of the restaurant were completely empty.

Next up, entrées. The Princess is a picky eater, so she opted for the Crispy Crusted Chicken.  Dussan joked that it was her “KFC”. Of course, the chicken was better than fast-food fried chicken. It had a light batter and was a quarter cut of chicken. It was well prepared and flavored with caramelized onions and honey mustard, so the wife was pleased.

The menu had a lot of options that sounded tasty, but I decided to give the lamb t-bone a try. I wished I could have ordered multiple entrees to try more food, but there is only so much one man can eat and still fit in his pants by the end of the cruise. I would have lamb a few other times on this cruise, and I have to say that this lamb was my least favorite (my favorite being at Jamie’s).  One of the gentleman at the table next to us ordered the rib eye steak, and he commented that it was very good. Next time I will be sure to give that entrée a try!

Getting coffee and dessert at the same time proved difficult here at Chic as well. The desserts were received well  before the coffee. We each ordered a different dessert and then split them.  I chose the Milk Chocolate Gelato, which included a scoop of the gelato stuffed between two wafers that were more like brownies.

The Dark Chocolate Torte that the wife ordered was very dense and rich. As a chocolate lover, I really enjoyed the almost fudge like consistency, but the Princess and the 2 gentleman next to us all agreed that it was too dense for their likings. Again, I picked the better dessert!

Dynamic Dining Review Chic

To recap our dynamic dining review of Chic, dinner took 90+ minutes,  longer than the night before at Silk. We did have the Broadway production of Mamma Mia to catch, so we had to flag our waiter down to ring out our drinks to ensure we got to the Royal Theater in a timely fashion.  We found the appetizers at Chic to be the true stars with decent entrees and desserts. We look forward to trying more of the menu when we sail on Anthem of the Seas next year.

  • I enjoyed Chic very much. One of our better servers for the 11 day cruise we took was there. Silk was our favorite, but I definitely enjoyed Chic.

    • Thanks MJon Travel for the comments. Our server was excellent at Chic as well. Since our trip, the menu at this restaurant has been updated, so we are looking forward to trying it again on our sailing on Anthem of the Seas next year. Good thing they still have the lump crab cake on the menu, as that was one of my favorite starters! Thanks for reading and safe travels!
