Newest Viking Nile River Ship Floated Out in Cairo

Viking announced today that its newest ship for the Nile River, Viking Thoth, was floated out. This construction milestone marks the first time a vessel touches water.

Set for delivery this October, the 82-guest Viking Thoth will operate Viking’s popular 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary. The traditional float out ceremony was held at Massara shipyard in Cairo. Viking Thoth will now be moved to a nearby outfitting dock for final construction and interior build-out.

“Egypt is a country of profound historical and cultural significance, which makes it a destination of great interest to our guests,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking. “With two new ships, the Viking Thoth and the Viking Amun, debuting in 2025, we are very proud to continue expanding our elegant fleet and introducing more curious travelers to this phenomenal region.”

Featuring just 41 guest staterooms, Viking Thoth is inspired by Viking’s other river and ocean ships, with the signature Scandinavian design that Viking is known for. An identical sister ship to Viking Osiris, Aton, Sobek, Hathor, and Amun, Viking Thoth features several aspects familiar to Viking guests.

Other vessels in Viking’s Egypt fleet include Viking Ra and MS Antares. In addition to Viking Thoth, the line plans to welcome four new ships in Egypt in the next two years, which will bring its Nile River fleet to 12 by 2027.
