Royal Caribbean’s second Icon-class vessel, Star of the Seas, has successfully completed sea trials.

The shipbuilder, Meyer Turku, said on Facebook “Star of the Seas completed her sea trials in record time and returned to the shipyard on the morning of Tuesday, May 27th. Star spent a total of eight days at sea, during which all systems were thoroughly tested. All tests were completed successfully.”

Over the course of 11 days, the ship was put to the test as over 2,000 experts from the naval architecture, engineering, navigation, and design fields conducted a wide range of technical examinations to ensure that it’s ready to set sail with guests. Everything from how the ship moves through open water to engine performance limits and more were tested.

And the sea trials were a great success. Project Manager Jaakko Leinonen said “These were the best sea trials I have ever participated in. There was a strong sense of team spirit throughout. Now it’s time to focus on completing the remaining work on the ship.”

Star of the Seas has now officially entered the final phase of construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard. While operating systems are now functional, finishing work continues ahead of the vessel’s August debut.

This mega ship, which is the largest cruise ship in the world, is a successor to the wildly-successful first ship in the Icon-class, Icon of the Seas. It will boast seven swimming pools, a number of water slides, and over 40 restaurants, bars, and lounges spread across eight distinct “neighborhoods.”

Star of the Seas will be based in Port Canaveral, Florida, offering year-round seven-night voyages to the eastern and western Caribbean.
