Photo Tour of Adventure of the Seas

Adventure of the Seas is one of five Royal Caribbean Voyager class ships. Built in 2001, the ship regularly sails Southern Caribbean itineraries making stops in exotic ports of call like Aruba, St. Lucia, and St. Kitts. Updated in 2014, the ship offers some impressive features, including ship wide WiFi and a giant outdoor movie screen, along with the brand’s signature Royal Promenade on Deck 5.

Adventure of the Seas

We recently sailed on Adventure of the Seas and were quickly captivated by her features and layout.

Haven’t sailed on this ship yet?

Well, this week we bring you a complete Photo Tour of Adventure of the Seas. We go from bow to stern, down all the decks to show you that this 14 year old vessel still has plenty of spirit in her. I mean, she does contain over 14 bars and lounges!

The Top Decks of Adventure of the Seas

On embarkation day of our cruise, we always start with a complete photo tour of the ship. On this occasion, we started at the top of the ship, on Deck 14, in the Viking Crown Lounge.

Adventure of the Seas

Here, you will find the Blue Moon Lounge, which is essentially a section of the Lounge that offers Jazz music many nights.

Adventure of the Seas

Other rooms on this deck include the Seven Hearts Card Room and Cloud Nine.We did not notice many cruisers using these rooms during our cruise on Adventure of the Seas, so if you are looking for a quiet retreat away from the pool decks, these rooms offer some nice views with few people.

Adventure of the Seas

The Viking Crown Lounge is also always a great spot to grab some aerial shots of the pool deck.

Adventure of the Seas

Heading down to deck 13, we snapped shots of the sports deck, including the basketball court, inline skating rink, and mini-golf course.

Adventure of the Seas

Being only 9 holes, the mini-golf course seemed quite large and fun to play. We would have played more games, but after winning both games early on during the cruise, there was no competition that could match my putting skills!  A word of caution: the mini golf holes look new, like they have been re-carpeted, but they are uneven, and it is apparent that whoever refurbished the course draped green carpet over old “hazards” like sand dunes.  You have been warned.

Adventure of the Seas

There was also a golf simulator, but the few times we were on the sports deck, it seemed like it was never being used.

Same is true for the inline skating rink. Other Voyager class ships have replaced this attraction with a flowrider. I suspect that the sports court will be updated and this area redesigned during its next refurbishment.

Adventure of the Seas

We did not get to use the rock climbing wall this time around as the last sea day it rained, but to get to the wall, you have to enter from deck 14 near the Viking Crown Lounge area. It was a good sized rock climbing wall though, similar to what you would find on either Freedom or Quantum class ships.

Adventure of the Seas

Outdoor Decks on Adventure of the Seas

Deck 12 is the first ship-long deck. Being mid-ship, we first took pictures of some of the children’s facilities, Adventure Ocean and the arcade.

Adventure of the Seas

If you like to play video games, you are in luck as this arcade is one of the largest we have seen in a while. This game room features skee-ball, air hockey, foosball, and other electronic games. Some of the games looked a bit older, so don’t expect the latest gaming technology.

Adventure of the Seas

Johnny Rockets is also located over in this area. We did not get a chance to grab lunch from the restaurant, and during our sailing, they did not serve breakfast like they do on Oasis class ships. According to the compass, Johnny Rockets was normally open for snacks from 1pm to 10:30pm, or later. There was a $6.95 cover charge per person.

Adventure of the Seas

Moving forward on Adventure of the Seas, there is the outdoor seating area and the Sky Bar. While some venues have specialty cocktail menus, none of the outdoor venues do, serving the same Quenchers at Sea menu as other venues like the Pool Bar and Solarium Bar.

Adventure of the Seas

Making a lap around the outdoor track, we came to the Spa. We did not venture inside, but for those who enjoy treatments like massages and pampering, you can rest assured knowing that the spa is well equipped and runs regular specials during the cruise.

Adventure of the Seas

Following the spa, we went down to Deck 11 to get pictures of the gym. This would be the only time any of us went to the gym! But, I was able to get in plenty of cardio during the trip, averaging close to 20,000 steps a day, with a mix of daily jogs around the running track, walking in ports of call, and taking the stairs instead of the elevators.

Adventure of the Seas

Deck 11 is the pool deck, so we took this opportunity to get additional photos of this area. There are two pools, with the Starboard pool used for activities including pool aerobics and the belly flop contest. For the most part, the pools were busy.

Adventure of the Seas

The Pool Bar is dead center of this deck, located right in front of a small stage, used for poolside activities during the cruise.

Adventure of the Seas

Hanging about this deck is also a giant Movie Screen that was installed recently as part of the ship’s refurbishment. While we did not watch any movies on it during our cruise, films included Insurgent and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Adventure of the Seas

Forward on Deck 11 is the Solarium, the adults only section. This area is partially covered, with an open roof directly above the pool. We did not spend much time in here, as it always felt humid and warm. The pool is also pretty small, and it feels like two whirlpools in this area are not necessary.

Adventure of the Seas

The Solarium Bar is also located here.  Unfortunately, we never got a cocktail from this venue due to the poor weather on the last sea day.

Adventure of the Seas

Aft on this deck is the Windjammer Buffet serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We ventured here a few more times than we normally do on a cruise for both breakfast and lunch. The selection felt a bit limited though, especially for lunch. Breakfast was okay, but the made to order omelets often had a 10-15 minute wait.

Adventure of the Seas

Located nearby is Giovanni’s Table, the only specialty restaurant on Adventure of the Seas. For a cost of $25 per person, you can enjoy Royal Caribbean’s rendition of Italian fare in this restaurant. Giovanni’s also offered a Mexican lunch on sea days for a fee of $12 per person.

Adventure of the Seas

Inside Adventure of the Seas

Decks 10 through 6 are mostly staterooms, with some random public venues. The only category of rooms we got to see onboard was our Promenade View stateroom. A bit larger than a normal interior room, it had much needed extra storage space/seating area and a window overlooking the Promenade.

Adventure of the Seas

As for public areas on these decks, the Concierge Lounge is located mid ship on deck 9. We could not tell you what it was like as we did not have access.

On Deck 8 (our deck), there was the Royal Caribbean Online computer area. WiFi is available ship wide, and during our sailing speeds varied, but we would say that it was slightly faster than 3G speeds. There are printers and computers here if you need to use them, but we rarely saw fellow passengers using this space.

Adventure of the Seas

Deck 7 had the library, which was a nice space, but did not have many books. If you have your own reading materials and are looking for a quiet indoor venue, then this spot would be ideal for you.

Adventure of the Seas

It also gives you a nice view of the Promenade without all the noise and crowds.

Adventure of the Seas

Along with rooms, Deck 6 is home to the Next Cruise office. Here, you can book another cruise and receive onboard credit for your current trip. Having booked in the past, and still with one open booking available, we decided to not book anything this time around. Personally, our preferred travel agent has gotten us better promotions and perks than the offers on the ship.

Adventure of the Seas

The Royal Promenade on Adventure of the Seas

Deck 5 is the Royal Promenade, the heart of the ship.

Adventure of the Seas

The bars and lounges here include Cafe Promenade, the Duck and Dog Pub, the Gravity Sports Bar, the Champagne Bar, the Connoisseurs Club, and the Imperial Lounge.

The Connoisseurs Club is the only indoor smoking venue besides the Casino, as all other smoking areas are located on outdoor decks, Starboard side. We did not utilize this lounge; but if you enjoy a good cigar, this might be your stop for a night cap.

Adventure of the Seas

On the Adventure of the Seas’  Royal Promenade, both the Duck and Dog Pub and the Champagne Bar have specialty menus.  Being a beer drinker, I loved the selection of brews and the beer cocktails served at the Pub.

Adventure of the Seas

Of course, The Princess loves the Champagne Bar, and with the specialty menu featuring the Strawberry Shortcake martini, who could blame her? The menu was actually an R Bar menu with handcrafted cocktails.

Adventure of the Seas

If you like to sit “al fresco”, both the Gravity Sports Bar and the Pub offer “outside” sitting, with tables and chairs right in the promenade. These are good spots for a few drinks and some people watching. We were able to snag a table during the 70’s Disco party at the Sports Bar.

Adventure of the Seas

Café Promenade is located forward, serving up 24 hour snacks. They offer the typical pastries and sandwiches you would find in other Café Promenades. Since there is no Sorrento’s onboard, there is also a selection of pizza for those looking for a pizza fix.

Adventure of the Seas

There is also a large bar top that wraps from the promenade into Café Promenade that offers drinks including specialty coffees. This was one of our first stops every morning for some iced lattes. Occasionally, we would stop here in the afternoon for an additional caffeine fix, not to mention some bottled water or soda. Oh, and a few sandwiches or desserts too!

Adventure of the Seas

Like all Promenades, there were a variety of shops offering duty free shopping, including the RC Logo Shop and a General Store, which sold mostly booze and cigarettes. But, there are plenty of jewelry sales, watch sales, and other shopping promotions happening regularly on the promenade.

The Imperial Lounge is the last of the major entertainment venues on Deck 5 forward, directly above the theater. This venue, with its ornate Asian themed decor, hosted events including Bingo, trivia, and other nightly entertainment during the course of the week. The comfy seating and bar service made this another great hangout spot on Adventure of the Seas.

Adventure of the Seas

Aft on the Promenade Deck is the Mozart dining room. This is currently reserved for those doing My Time Dining. The few times we were around this area near dinner, it did not seem like it was difficult to get seated. You can also pre-book your table prior to boarding or schedule dining times during your cruise.

Adventure of the Seas

Entertainment Decks on Adventure of the Seas

Descending down to Deck 4 at this end of the ship is another main dining room, Strauss.

Adventure of the Seas

During our cruise we sat at table 488, which was right near the entrance. At first, I was concerned about the position of our table, but with a great wait staff and what seemed like an empty dining room, we decided to keep our table.

Adventure of the Seas

Moving forward on this deck is the Lobby Bar. Different musical acts played during our cruise including the classical guitarist, Jeffrey Malazo, and the Celebration Band. The theming is still reminiscent of the Aquarium Bar with aquatic murals on the walls surrounding the seating areas.

Adventure of the Seas

From here, you can head forward through the casino. A pretty standard size casino, but there were never many table games open. Compared to other cruises, the casino was never as packed or as smoky as we have experienced on other ships.  We actually liked that the theming had an old time movie feel.

Adventure of the Seas

Through the casino was the Schooner Bar and the top floor of Jesters, the nightclub onboard Adventure of the Seas. The few times we were in Jesters the venue was virtually empty. According to sis, the venue got busier later in the evening once the other bars closed, but we did not stay up late enough to see this happen.

Adventure of the Seas

The signature Schooner Bar is located right next to the Lyric Theater. Here, there was music trivia, adult karaoke, and the piano stylings of Dan Davies.  This bar also had a specialty menu with a great classic sidecar.

Adventure of the Seas

The Lyric Theater is all the way forward and the entrance is on Deck 3, with the mezzanine level seating on Deck 4. Note, you have to enter on Deck 3 and use the stairs in the theater to get to the balcony. We, of course, attended every cruise production show and saw both headliner acts, but none of the shows seemed that well attended for some reason.

Adventure of the Seas

The final dining room is on Deck 3 as well, Vivaldi.

Adventure of the Seas

Deck 3 also houses the art and photo gallery, where we spent plenty of time perusing our photos and of course, purchasing the unlimited digital photo package. With a party of 4 this cruise, we still did not manage to break our record of the most pictures taken.

Adventure of the Seas

Deck 3 aft is where you will find Studio B. This Ice Skating rink hosted the show, Hot Art, Cool Ice. The show was solid and pretty well attended. The rough seas did prove a challenge to the skaters as there were a few stumbles and falls during the show, but these mishaps did not detract us from thoroughly enjoying the performance.

Adventure of the Seas

There is also a screening room on Deck 2 that showed some movies during our sailing, but we never made it down there to check it out. Who goes on a cruise to watch movies? Deck 2 also contained a conference center, but we had no need to visit this venue either.

So, there you have it- our complete photo tour of Adventure of the Seas. Stay tuned for our complete photo gallery and detailed day by day review of our trip coming soon!

  • Enjoyed learning more about the Adventure of the Seas. We are taking our two children, their spouses and six grandchildren on this ship July 29-August 5. I passed along your site for all to see to become acquainted with ship ahead of time. My wife and I were on the very similar Freedom of the Seas a year ago September and liked the ship a lot and our JS Suite!

    • Thanks Ray for the comments and kind words about our site. Thanks for passing it along to your other family members. If anyone has more questions, feel free to have them email us. I think you all will have a great cruise. Happy sailing.

  • I love these kind of ships. They are amazing. Never been to any yet, but once I’ve seen it in Messina. It was like new city came to the city 🙂 Hopefully once I’ll get on board! If not on cruise, then at least somewhere in the museum 🙂

  • There are 5 Voyager Class Ships: VOYAGER of the Seas, MARINER of the Seas, EXPLORER of the Seas. NAVIGATOR of the Seas, ADVENTURE of the Seas.
