Sarah Bretz, ContributorOceania Cruises has announced that for the first time, it will be operating its ship Riviera in Alaska in 2025. The 1,250-guest vessel will be the first and only cruise ship in the region designed for foodies, and will offer a unique small-ship Alaska experience for guests.
The 2025 Alaska season will take place from May through September, offering itineraries ranging from seven to 12 days out of Seattle, Vancouver, and Whittier. Each itinerary will feature both lesser-known and iconic ports such as Homer, Sitka, and Juneau. Each sailing will also feature a naturalist on board to offer expert insights into the biodiversity of Alaska.

Del Rio, President of Oceania Cruises. “Our elegant, ultra-premium small-ship experience offers the perfect juxtaposition to Alaska’s outdoor adventures, and with Riviera being 30 to 50 percent smaller than other premium cruise lines sailing in the region, we’re able to bring our guests to lesser-known, more remote ports, for a true immersion into this fascinating destination.”
Oceania’s popular Alaska Explorer Youth Program is available on all voyages in 2025. Designed for kids ages five to 12, the program will include games, activities, and Alaska-inspired special events where young travelers will be supervised by experienced youth counselors.
To enhance their vacation, travelers will have the option to add on a pre or post-cruise land program to explore more of Alaska. Among the land programs offered is Discover Denali, where travelers will enjoy beautiful views while exploring Denali National Park. Over the course of four days/three nights, guests will enjoy two full days in the park, as well as travel via domed railcar and along scenic byways. The program also features an Alaskan Native presentation on the history of the land and a natural history tour.
Given Oceania Cruises’ focus on food, the line is incorporating the culinary scene of The Last Frontier into its guest experience through new cooking classes in The Culinary Center and the Chef’s Market Dinners in the Terrace Café. Oceania will also be offering a variety of food-centric shore excursions, including:

- Exclusive Crabbing Experience in Ketchikan
- Exclusive Flightseeing & The Taste of Alaska in Ketchikan
- Sitka Culinary Adventure in Sitka

- Tongass Hike & Taste of Alaska in Ketchikan
