Norwegian Prima Haven Penthouse Cabin Review

We give you an inside look at the upscale accommodations on NCL's newest ship in our Norwegian Prima Haven Penthouse cabin review.

Norwegian Prima Haven Penthouse Balcony Cabin

Deciding which cabin to select for a cruise can be difficult. For our second inaugural cruise on Norwegian Cruise Line’s brand new Norwegian Prima, we were sailing as guests of the cruise line so were assigned a Norwegian Prima Haven Penthouse, cabin 15308.

Reviewing the deck plans, this portside balcony cabin is considered an HE category stateroom. These luxury penthouses have access to The Haven amenities. They also feature a king-size bed, a luxury bath with jetted shower, plus a sitting area and a large balcony. The Norwegian Prima Haven Penthouse also includes butler and concierge service.

Our cabin was located rather aft on Deck 15 and offers 368 square feet of space with an 84 square foot balcony. According to NCL’s website, the Norwegian Prima Haven Penthouse cabins are located on decks 12, 13, 14, and 15. Some of these cabins can accommodate 3 guests with a total area ranging up to 418 square feet with a 134 square foot balcony.

For cruisers comparing the different stateroom options on this new ship, we have put together our Norwegian Prima Haven Penthouse Cabin Review.

Norwegian Prima Haven Penthouse Cabin Review

We just sailed on Norwegian Prima a few week’s ago in a standard balcony cabin. We have also sailed on various other ships in the NCL fleet as well. However, we have never stayed in The Haven.

The Haven is an all-suite, exclusive area on Norwegian Cruise Line ships that is accessible only by keycard holders. This “ship within a ship” on Norwegian Prima has been elevated even further than The Haven on other ships in the fleet. Needless to say, we were excited to check out these posh accommodations during our 4 days onboard the ship in NYC.

Our cabin was conveniently located near the aft bank of private Haven elevators. Being on Deck 15, it was only one deck away from all The Haven amenities on Deck 16. Further, it was only a few decks up to the public pool and sports decks. It was an easy walk down to Ocean Boulevard and the entertainment spaces on the ship as well.

The only downside is that we were forced to take the elevator up one deck to the Haven amenities as there is not an accessible staircase.

Layout of a Norwegian Prima Haven Penthouse Cabin

At first glance, we were impressed with our Norwegian Prima Haven Penthouse cabin.

Obviously, the increase in square footage is noticeable when comparing this cabin to our previous balcony cabin. Although personally, we like the décor in our previous balcony cabin better with the lighter wood tones.

This Norwegian Prima Haven Penthouse cabin has darker wood finishes with light green wallpaper-like walls. The rest of the color palette is rather muted with pops of blue and red.

Immediately entering our Norwegian Prima Haven Penthouse cabin, the closet was to the right and the bathroom was to the left. However, the entrance to the bathroom is actually around the corner near the bed.

Beyond the bathroom and closet was the bed. The bed is on the aft wall facing forward. There is a small night stand on each side of the bed. Both sides of the bed have a lamp along with plenty of power outlets. Across from the bed is the television and cabinetry with a nespresso maker and the mini-fridge.

There is also a small vanity area tucked off to the side of the bed near the bathroom.

Continuing past the bed, there was a seating area to the left. To the right, there was a dining nook.

Finally, there was the balcony. At 84 square feet, the upgraded size is noticeable. There is plenty of room for two oversized padded chairs and a round table.

Bathroom

The bathroom in this Norwegian Prima Haven Penthouse cabin is once again a noticeable upgrade. It is much roomier than the bathroom in our previous balcony cabin. It also has a door to close off the toilet, with the vanity and shower in the main bathroom area.

The décor and finishes are on par with the rest of the ship, more elegant and upscale.

The bathroom features a double-sink; however, there is very little counter space besides the sink. Off to one side of the vanity, there are three small shelves to store toiletry items. Below the sink, there are two additional drawers for storage.

The shower is a full-sized standup shower with a bench and one storage cubby. It also features a rainfall head, wall jets, and a hand-held shower wand.

Always a bonus in a cruise ship bathroom, there is a hand soap and lotion dispenser as well. The shower itself includes L’Occitane shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel dispensers.

Overall, there was more than enough bathroom space; though, it would have been nice to have some additional counter space. Of course, we always bring an over-the-door shoe organizer to store toiletries and other small items as well.

Closet

The closet consists of two separate sections. The first section features a clothes bar with hangers. There is also one shelf for storage and a slanted shoe shelf at the bottom. The other side of the closet has a different configuration, consisting of all shelves and drawers. There are three upper shelves, the safe, and three lower drawers. There is a slanted shelf for shoes at the bottom of this space as well.

Overall, there was more than enough storage space in the closet for the two of us. Not to mention, there are additional storage spaces in the main cabin area.

Of course, the closet is also home to plush bathrobes, slippers, and an umbrella.

Main Cabin Area

The main area in this Norwegian Prima Haven Penthouse cabin provides the luxury feel you would expect to find in an upscale hotel room.

The king-sized bed was very comfortable with a pillow top mattress and upgraded linens. We never had any issues falling asleep at night.

Underneath the bed, there is storage space for suitcases along with one drawer on each side.

Across from the bed is a generously sized television with two drawers underneath for storage. Further, there is cabinetry with a nespresso maker, glassware and silverware, the mini-bar, and two more drawers.

We appreciated the several outlets near the bed as well. Each side has two power outlets, a USB, and a USB-C outlet. These always come in handy for charging phones and watches at night.

The nightstands on each side of the bed each feature a drawer for storage too.

The vanity area is rather small, but there was enough room for me to get ready here in the mornings. Here, you can find the hair dryer, a lighted makeup mirror, additional outlets, and a small desk drawer.

The sitting area really only features one arm chair with a small piece of furniture showcasing some additional accent art.

The dining area is a nice upgrade to a standard stateroom option. This area includes a padded bench, a round dining table, and one chair. If you order room service, your butler will set this table for you.

Unfortunately, room service was not available on our media sailing.

Balcony

The balcony in this stateroom is fairly long and somewhat deeper than typical cruise ship balconies. There is a lot of open space to enjoy the ocean views, along with two oversized chairs and a table. In warmer itineraries, it would be nice to have two sun loungers here as well.

Still, with the nice weather we had during our short sailing, we were able to enjoy some time out here.

The Haven Perks and Amenities

Besides providing luxury service, The Haven features exclusive spaces just for Haven guests.

First, guests staying in The Haven on Norwegian Prima have their own exclusive restaurant. The Haven Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, along with afternoon tea. This offers guests an additional and complimentary dining option beyond the main dining rooms and the specialty restaurants.

There is also the Haven Lounge. This spacious seating area features floor to ceiling windows so you can always enjoy the view. Of course, there is not one but two Haven Bars as well.

Perhaps the most impressive space in The Haven on Norwegian Prima is the 2-story sundeck. This 2-level space boasts a private infinity pool overlooking the ship’s wake. There is also plenty of comfy furniture, two hot tubs, and even a sauna and cold room.

Additionally, there are a number of perks while staying in The Haven on Norwegian Cruise Line.

All Haven guests have priority embarkation (and disembarkation). This means you have a dedicated area in the terminal with expedited check-in and a lounge with snacks while you wait to board the ship. Haven guests are also among the first to board the ship on embarkation day.

Haven guests have priority when reserving restaurants and priority seating at shows as well. Further, room service is complimentary for Haven guests on Norwegian Cruise Line.

Recap of Our Norwegian Prima Haven Penthouse Cabin Review

Having never stayed in The Haven on a Norwegian Cruise Line ship, we loved all the extra space and upgraded amenities that come along with the Norwegian Prima Haven Penthouse cabin.

Not to mention, the additional storage and the elevated bathroom and shower were bonuses.

We always appreciate power outlets in cruise ship cabins, and this cabin had way more than we even needed!

This stateroom option is definitely a step above your typical NCL cabins.

Further, we enjoyed dining at The Haven Restaurant. The menu items are certainly more upscale than what you find in the main dining room.

And, how could we not love the new Haven Sundeck. This area provides some of the best views on the ship and was the perfect spot to watch our sail away from New York. We only wish we had more time, and Caribbean weather, to enjoy this luxurious outdoor space.

Since this is our first Haven experience, we can not compare to other Haven’s in the fleet just yet. I guess that means we need to sail in the Haven on another NCL ship sometime soon!
