There’s officially a new ship in the MSC Cruises fleet. MSC World America was christened last night during a ceremony at MSC Cruises’ brand-new terminal in PortMiami.
The ship’s godmother, actress and talk show host Drew Barrymore, named the ship with the cutting of a ribbon that broke a bottle on the ship’s bow — a maritime tradition that wishes the vessel and all who sail on her good fortune. She was joined by actor Orlando Bloom, who co-stars with Drew in MSC’s “Let’s Holiday” campaign.
“It’s such an honor to be MSC World America’s Godmother, and I can’t wait to cut that ribbon tonight and wish the ship smooth seas and good fortune for years to come,” Barrymore said prior to the ceremony. “I’ve had a lifelong passion for travel, which has always fueled my soul and left me with the most awesome memories. Millions of people will create their own memories aboard this beautiful ship as time goes by, and I know they’ll have a blast experiencing everything MSC World America has to offer.”
In addition to the christening ceremony featuring live music and speeches, guests enjoyed a gala dinner and a drone and fireworks display against the Miami skyline to end the night.
The new MSC Cruises flagship is the second in its World class following MSC World Europa, which debuted in December 2022.

Invited guests are now on a special two-night cruise to explore everything the ship has to offer and visit MSC’s private island in the Bahamas, Ocean Cay. While on the island, the MSC Foundation will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to inaugurate its new Marine Conservation Centre. The facility will serve as a hub for scientists and students involved in the Foundation’s Super Coral Reefs Program, as well as a place where guests can learn more about the program’s mission to restore coral reefs that have been impacted by climate change.
MSC World America will depart for her first official cruise on April 12th and spend her inaugural season sailing from PortMiami on alternating seven-night eastern and western Caribbean itineraries. All voyages will include visits to Ocean Cay.
