Explora Journeys, the luxury cruise brand from MSC Group, has officially named its second ship.

Explora II was christened in Civitavecchia, Italy, which is the port for Rome. The traditional maritime ceremony featured the symbolic cutting of a ribbon to break a bottle on the ship’s bow. The honor was conducted by the vessel’s godmother, Rosalba Giugni, founder and president of the Marevivo Foundation. The foundation is a non-partisan environmental conservation organization committed to the preservation of marine environments. It was founded in 1985.

Rosalba was chosen for the honor as a friend and partner of the MSC Foundation, but also as a mark of respect for her 35-year commitment to the protection of the world’s oceans.

The naming ceremony brought together distinguished guests from around the world, as well as international journalists, key travel partners, and senior MSC Group representatives. It was hosted by Italian actress and TV personality Lorella Cuccarini, and concluded with a traditional parade of ship officers.

Following the formal proceedings, guests enjoyed a gala dinner and an evening of vibrant celebrations including a musical performance by English pop singer Tony Hadley and a drone show that creatively narrated the story of Explora Journeys.

Explora II introduces new features to the cruise line, including new retail options โ€” the first Buccellati jewelry boutique at sea and special collaborations and limited editions by Borsalino, Kampos, and Massaba for Explora Journeys, exclusively available at the shipโ€™s โ€˜The Journeyโ€™ boutique.

The redesigned Ocean Wellness Spa offers a series of new treatment programs inspired by authentic Ayurvedic principles. As well, the Helios Pool & Bar has been refreshed with bespoke Unopiรน outdoor furniture designed by Matteo Nunziati.

Explora II‘s seven-night maiden voyage started today, and will include stops in Sorrento, Lipari, Trapani, Siracusa, and Valletta. It will end in Tarragona, Spain.

Both vessels in the fleet โ€”ย Explora I and Explora II โ€”ย will reposition to the Caribbean for the winter. In summer 2025, Explora II will sail in the western Mediterranean.
