Disney Adventure Celebrates Another Construction Milestone

Disney Cruise Line’s upcoming mega ship, Disney Adventure, has reached another major milestone ahead of her debut this December.

The classic stern characters — different ones of which can be found on every Disney cruise ship — have now been installed. An oversized sculpture featuring an anchor along with Captain Mickey and Captain Minnie are now on the back of the ship.

The 18 foot-tall and 12 foot-wide fixture was carefully lifted by the Meyer Wismar shipyard team using cranes to then bolt to the ship’s stern. Disney Adventure is the first Disney Cruise Line ship to feature the captains as the stern characters.

The Walt Disney Imagineering team included some fun details on the statue, including dripping yellow filigree paint and bows on Captain Minnie’s shoes. The characters are depicted hard at world, putting the final touches on the ship’s stern filigree with their larger-than-life paintbrushes.

The 208,000 gross ton Disney Adventure will be the largest ship in the fleet. It will operate three and four-night cruises to nowhere from Singapore year-round. Another Disney cruise ship is also set to debut later this year — Disney Destiny. The 144,000 gross-ton vessel will begin sailing from Fort Lauderdale this November.
