Top Things to Do on Norwegian Getaway

Dine at a Specialty Restaurant

On Norwegian Getaway, there are no set dining times. You can eat wherever you want, whenever you want during your cruise. This freestyle approach will allow you to sample the variety of dining options offered. Among these dining options are the line’s signature specialty restaurants including the steak house Cagney’s, the Italian restaurant La Cucina, the Brazilian Churrascaria Moderno, the French inspired Le Bistro, and the hibachi experience at Teppanyaki. Reservations are recommended, and if you plan on dining at a few of these restaurants, you might want to consider purchasing a specialty dining package.

Grab a Lobster Roll at Ocean Blue

If seafood is more your thing, Norwegian Getaway offers a few options as well. Ocean Blue is an elegant dining experience offering some of the freshest fish at sea and is open nightly for dinner. If you are looking for a more casual experience, Ocean Blue offers counter service on the Waterfront on sea days, where you can grab a lobster roll at a la carte pricing. Once you try it, you just might be hooked. Wasabi Sushi is also open on sea days for lunch and nightly for dinner. Whatever you’re craving, Norwegian Getaway is sure to offer!

Take a Front Row Seat at the Noodle Bar

The Shanghai Noodle Bar found on Breakaway class ships is a complimentary dining venue open most nights for dinner 5:30-10pm. This Asian inspired restaurant offers counter seating around an open kitchen, where you can order a variety of Chinese noodles and wok-cooked dishes. If you don’t want to spend money on specialty dining, this Noodle Bar is a great alternative to the main dining room. We suggest ordering several dishes and sharing among your party.

Savor a Handcrafted Mojito

After eating all of those delicious meals, you are going to get thirsty. Luckily, Norwegian Getaway has plenty of bars and lounges to grab a drink. One of our favorites is the Sugarcane Mojito Bar. This Miami-inspired watering hole muddles up one of a kind mojitos from its specialty drink menu. The prime locations in 678 Ocean Place and outside on the Waterfront, combined with handcrafted drinks, make the Sugarcane Mojito Bar one of the best hang outs day or night. Be sure to stop by and sample these crafty concoctions and enjoy the true Miami flavor.

Chill at the Ice Bar

Another unique bar option on Norwegian Getaway is the SVEDKA and Inniskillin Ice Bar. Suit up and head inside this frozen chamber to enjoy one of five Florida-inspired specialty cocktails (two alcohol-free options are also available). This chilling room is entirely made of ice, from the bar right down to the glasses. While you sip your cocktail is this balmy 17 degree room, you can also admire the ice sculptures. Just don’t stay too long or you might start to think you are in Alaska instead of the Caribbean. There is a $19.95 entrance fee which includes 2 drinks.

Take a Morning Stroll on the Waterfront

A trend has emerged with cruise lines offering more opportunities to reconnect with the ocean, and Norwegian Getaway’s Waterfront is prime real estate. This quarter-mile oceanfront promenade is the perfect place to start your day. Head down to Deck 8 for a morning stroll, perhaps catch a sunrise, or get in an early morning workout. As an added bonus, coffee and tea stations are set up with some breakfast pastries so you can enjoy the view and a light breakfast at the same time.

Dine Al Fresco

The Waterfront is also lined with bars, restaurants, and even an ice cream shop to make you feel like you are walking up and down a seaside boardwalk. If you choose to dine at one of the specialty restaurants, including Ocean Blue, Cagney’s, Moderno, or La Cucina, opt for al fresco seating. These restaurants offer outdoor seating on the Waterfront that allow you to enjoy your meal with a cool breeze through your hair, the calming sounds of the ocean, and the perfect sunset backdrops.

For those who are looking for some rejuvenation during your cruise, the Thermal Spa offers several options for you to spend a day in deep relaxation, including the Thalasso therapy pool, the Vitality Pool with the soothing warm waterfall, hottubs, saunas, and steam rooms. Another unique feature in the spa is the Salt Room, which mimics the natural salt caves found in Eastern Europe, said to promote skin and respiratory health. Or, you can simply enjoy the comforts of heated chaise lounge chairs as you gaze upon ocean views in peace and tranquility. Both week long ($219) and select sea day day passes ($59) are available.

Norwegian Getaway now offers a new escape room called Escape the Big Top. This circus themed experience takes place in the Illusionarium on select days and is included in your cruise fare. You will need to work together as a team to solve puzzles and find the magic spell to escape the curse before time runs out. Space is limited so head to the box office early to secure your spot. Walk the Plank

If you are a thrill seeker, you can test your agility and stamina on the ropes course. Maneuver through the multi-level course mastering different challenges, including a zip line. Are you daring enough to conquer the plank? This 8 foot long beam extends over the side of the ship and is a true test of your balance and courage. Lace up your sneakers, strap on your Go Pro, and take on this challenge; you’ll be glad you did. Of course, there are various routes you can take if you choose to avoid certain elements of the course.

Plunge Down the Waterslides

If you can still handle more excitement, you will want to conquer the waterslides next. Located 17 decks above sea level, Norwegian Getaway offers 5 waterslides for you to choose from- 2 Free Fall slides, 2 Whip slides, and a Family slide. The Free Fall slides are not for the faint at heart, dropping you at 4G’s in complete darkness. The Whip slides are dual racing slides that twist and turn you through some wet and wild fun. Waste Away at Margaritaville at Sea

After debuting on Norwegian Escape and becoming a quick cruiser favorite, Margaritaville at Sea was added to Norwegian Getaway. This a la carte lunch spot is an open air venue inspired by the life and lyrics of Jimmy Buffett. With a menu offering snacks, salads, and sandwiches, you will certainly find something to suit your palette. We recommend the Volcano nachos, piled high with all the fixings, and a Cheeseburger in Paradise. After dining here once, you might find yourself going back for seconds. We did!

It’s 5 O’ Clock Somewhere

While dining at Margaritaville at Sea, who’s to blame you for ordering a specialty margarita or boat drink at the Chill Bar located within the restaurant. With parrothead favorites like the Who’s to Blame, License to Chill, and Incommunicado, you might want to sample one of every drink on the menu. Don’t worry, these drinks are covered in the ultimate beverage package. There are seats available at the bar if you chose to visit the restaurant just for drinks instead of food. After all, it’s 5 o’ clock somewhere!

Swim up to the Landshark Bar

In keeping with the Jimmy Buffett partnership, Norwegian Cruise Line’s new private island in Harvest Caye, Belize features a 2-story Landshark Bar and Grill. Here, you can relax on the upper deck, chill in the Beer Garden, or grab your very own stool at the swim up bar. What could be better than spending your day in this private oasis and never having to leave the water? Of course, you will have to get back on the ship eventually.

Fly Through Harvest Caye

While visiting this new private island destination, there is much more to explore than the restaurants, beach, and pools. The thrill seekers will love the Sky Trail ropes course and the Flighthouse zipline. Fly through Harvest Caye on 2 adrenaline packed ziplines, the Lagoon Adventure Run and the Double Beach Run- a 3,000 foot long tandem “superman” zipline. Get a bird’s eye view of the island as you soar across this one of a kind activity.

Get Dressed Up

Offering a more freestyle approach to cruising, Norwegian Getaway does not have your standard “formal nights”. Though, on night two of most 7-night cruises, Norwegians can enjoy “dress up or not night”. If you like to get fancy, then dress to the nines, take a couple professional portraits, perhaps even one with the Captain, and enjoy your big night out. You never know where the evening will take you. Broadway shows, dueling pianos, comedy shows, dancing, and so much more await you.

Take in a Broadway Show

Speaking of Broadway shows, Norwegian Getaway offers 2 hit shows that are available for pre-booking prior to your cruise. Million Dollar Quartet is a dramatization of an actual jam session involving Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, and Cal Perkins that occurred on December 4, 1956. Burn the Floor is a non-stop dance spectacle that showcases the passion behind some of the most popular dancing styles including the Cha-Cha, Salsa, Foxtrot, Charleston, and more. Get your dancing shoes ready as these performers also offer classes during the cruise.

Dance the Night Away

If all the energy from these shows puts you in the dancing mood, then let loose beneath the stars at one of the many nighttime parties held at Spice H20. From the popular Glow Party, to the Caribbean Party and 80’s Party, you are sure to have a blast at this venue inspired by the summer beach parties on the island of Ibiza. If you want to keep the party going until the wee hours of the morning, then head to the Bliss Ultra Lounge for your nightclub experience at sea with the DJ spinning top hits.

Laugh it Up

If dancing is not your thing, then spend the evening laughing it up at the Headliner’s Comedy Club. This small venue features 2 comedians, presented by the Levity Entertainment group, that rotate through 7pm, 9pm, and 11pm time slots several nights of your cruise. These shows are available for booking only once onboard the ship. We recommend securing your time slot on embarkation day as the shows do book up quickly and standby lines can get quite long. Of note, the 11pm comedy show is adult only.

Sing Us a Song, You’re the Piano Man

On alternate nights, the Headliner’s Comedy Club also serves as the Howl at the Moon dueling piano bar. Request a song, sing along, or just sit back and enjoy the tunes and comedic banter between the piano players. After all, we’re all in the mood for a melody. No reservations are required for Howl at the Moon, and you can come and go as you please. The artists play in scheduled time blocks taking intermittent breaks throughout the evening, so pop in for a song or stay the entire evening. The choice is yours.

Be Mystified by the Illusionarium

If you are looking for one of a kind entertainment on Norwegian Getaway, you should reserve seats for the dinner show in the Illusionarium (additional costs apply- $24.99 and $29.99). Admittedly, the experience is more about the show than the dinner. The props, video dome on the ceiling, and theming set the stage for a Vegas style production. Get ready to be mystified by magicians and mentalists in this immersive show. Oh yeah, a 3-course meal is served too.

Grab a Late Night Snack

With so many nighttime entertainment options, you are bound to be up late most evenings. If you get the late night munchies, then head to O’Sheehan’s Bar and Grill. This complimentary restaurant is open 24 hours a day serving up your favorite comfort foods and craft beer. To end the perfect evening on Norwegian Getaway, grab some chicken wings or fish and chips to go along with a cold brew. This cruisers’ favorite venue also has bowling and arcade games (for an additional cost) if you are up for the challenge.

Upgrade Your Cabin Experience

Norwegian Getaway offers a variety of accommodations. For solo travelers, this mega ship has studio cabins where you will not need to pay a single cruiser supplement, in addition to the regular inside, ocean-view, and balcony rooms. If you want to splurge a bit, you can book a Spa Room with enhanced decor and access to the Thermal Suite. Or, upgrade to the cruise line’s signature “Haven” that provides travelers with the most upscale cabins and private areas on the ship, including a courtyard with a pool, a private lounge, and even a restaurant reserved exclusively for guests staying in this area of the ship. 1. Does the Norwegian Getaway have a library on board?

After reading this, so excited to cruise with Norwegian. This will be our first cruise with Norwegian. Have been on 14 cruises, so looking forward to our first cruise with Norwegian. I heard the food is super,

Looking forward to.our cruise Jan 26th 2020 leaving from new orleans!!! Never been on a cruise we are a resort couple but we thought hey what the heck let’s try and see if we enjoy it please dont let me down Norweigen.

I have always been a Royal Carribean gal, but my husband and I decided to try Norwegian with friends and their kids in March 2020. I already notice differences in terms of how the Guest Services Staff, and the Excursion Staff treat customers that book with a 3rd Party Preferred vendor, like Costco Travel in our case. I feel the difference when I call in. Both cruise lines are vastly different in many ways. Not always in a good way, not always in a bad way. It’s just different. That’s all I can say. Make your own judgement, and if this is your first cruise you will not have much to compare it too, so just enjoy the ride. Cruising is fun no matter what cruise line!

I am really looking forward to my first cruise with my boyfriend the first week of March 2020!! He has cruised a few times in the past but it has been about 15 years since his last one. I have never cruised so I am extremely excited but just a little nervous. The ship description and pictures look amazing!! I cant wait! 35 days!!
