Holland America’s Newest Ship Will Homeport in Florida

The second Pinnacle-class ship from Holland America will be crossing the pond. Cruises on the line’s MS Nieuw Statendam went on sale this past week. Scheduled to be delivered in December of 2018, the ship will spend the winter season in the homeport of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Offering cruises to the Western and Eastern Caribbean, the ship will have 3 and 4 night introductory cruises along with typical seven night round-trip itineraries. Onboard venues and experiences are expected to be similar to those found on the first ship in the class, the MS Koningsdam.

Details Unveiled for MSC Cirque du Soleil Shows

Speaking of hot, MSC Cruises finally revealed the concepts for some of the entertainment on its largest ship to date, MSC Meraviglia. The megaship will feature two Cirque du Soleil shows, each with their own unique storyline. Viaggio will bring to life the imagination of an artist as told through his muse; whereas, Sonor will feature dancers and acrobats choreographed to unique sounds and beats. There will be two nightly performances of each show in the ship’s Carousel Lounge theater. This theater was specifically designed to host Cirque style entertainment. Special dining and drink packages will be available to allow guests to enjoy an “enhanced” experience during the performances.

New River Cruise Line Debuting in 2018

British based Fred-Olsen Line announced this week that the brand is expanding into river cruises. Starting in April 2018, the brand will add a river cruise ship, the Brabant, which will offer cruises on major European river-ways including the Rhine and the Danube. If you are considering one of these trips, be warned that they are going to be tailored to the British market. The line will be customizing the food, excursions, and onboard entertainment to appeal to Brits. This is not surprising as these travelers make up the core passengers on the brand’s ocean liners. Still, cabins go on sale later this week for those considering the new cruise line.

American Duchess Inaugural Delayed

Speaking of river cruises, the U.S. has seen a boom in river cruises in recent years. One of those companies, American Queen Steamboat Company, revealed this week that they are a bit behind schedule. The brand’s third ship, the American Duchess, will be delaying its inaugural trip. The ship will now have its christening in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 13th. This is almost a six week delay from the original date of July 1st. For guests on cruises that are no longer sailing, they have been notified by the cruise line or their travel agents and can receive a full refund plus airfare. Or, the line will re-book passengers on similar cruises later in the year. Offering the largest suites on the Mississippi and two unique dining concepts, there is sure to be a rush of cruisers looking to test her out in 2017.
