Bonaire Improving Infrastructure

Last year was a record year for cruise passengers visiting Bonaire. With the island experiencing a boom over the past few years, government officials are looking to improve the island’s infrastructure. Part of these improvement plans includes raising the current cruise passenger tax from $2 to $3.50. Along with the public investment, these additional funds will enable the island to extend the pier and add additional moorings to allow bigger ships to dock in Kralendijk. This will give the island the capacity to reach over half a million cruise passengers by 2019.

Carnival Cruise Line Changes Photo Package

If you are like the Princess, you enjoy your cruise ship photos. Photo lovers who frequent Carnival Cruise Line were treated to a string of disappointing news this week. The cruise line first announced an increase in cost to its “unlimited photo package”. The price hiked a total of $150. Yikes! After all of the outrage, the cruise line recanted the decision. Although, later in the week, the cruise line announced another change to the packages. Now, cruisers will no longer be allowed “unlimited copies”. Instead, cruisers purchasing the Pixels Plus package (starting at $249 pre-cruise) would still get one copy of all of the photos plus up to an additional 50 reprints or digital files.

Construction Begins on New Miami, FL Cruise Terminal

Soon, the Miami cruise port will have a brand new terminal. Norwegian Cruise Line holdings broke ground a few days ago on its state-of-the-art cruise terminal. The parent company of Regent Seven Seas and Norwegian Cruise Line plans to have the new terminal open in the fall of 2019. This timing will coincide with the release of the ship’s last Breakaway-Plus class vessel, the Norwegian Encore. This new facility will be able to process vessels with up to 5,000 passengers. Along with enabling faster embarkation and disembarkation of passengers, the new building is set to be architecturally pleasing. The terminal’s modern design will allow passengers fantastic views of the local area while relaxing in style.

More Details on Crystal Endeavor Expedition Ship

Crystal Cruises provided some updates this week about its upcoming expedition class ship. The 19K gross ton expedition class yacht will be the largest ship of its kind. Offering luxury voyages to the polar regions of the world, the ship will host some impressive accommodations. According to the company’s CEO, the 200 passenger all-suite ship will have the “largest and most spacious suites in the expedition industry.” The details of these impressive staterooms were shared with travel professionals a few days ago during the company’s annual sales meeting. The ship is slated to join the fleet in 2020 with reservations expected to be released later this year.
