A snowy week here in the Northeast has us wishing we were on a cruise. Well, it’s three more weeks until our next trip on Norwegian Getaway, so I think we can survive. Luckily, the snow did not slow down the major cruise lines, as they were busy releasing more updates over the course of the past week. Here is this week’s Cruise News February 12, 2017.

New Beauty and the Beast Show on Disney Dream

With the new live-action production of Beauty and the Beast coming to theaters in March, Disney Cruise Line is not done telling this “tale as old as time”. Details emerged earlier last week that the cruise line is looking to add a new Beauty and the Beast musical production to the Disney Dream. The show will borrow elements from both the animated classic and new movie. Set to debut this November, the show will feature classic musical numbers and Disney magic to bring the enchanted objects to life using state of the art technology combined with puppetry.

More Cruises to Cuba Onboard Norwegian Cruise Line

With Royal Caribbean International announcing expanded cruises to Cuba last week, it was Norwegian Cruise Line’s turn to roll out more trips. A few days ago, the line announced 25 more sailings to Cuba through the end of the year. The Norwegian Sky will continue to do three and four day sailings that include either a one day stop or overnight in Havana, Cuba. The extended list of cruises will go on sale February 21st. Currently, there are a few select cruises booking for April and May. The Princess and I already snagged one of those, so be on the look out for more Cuba cruising updates in the coming months.

Carnival Horizon Sailing to Bermuda

Carnival’s newest ship, Carnival Horizon, is already making waves as she is now setting a new course. Along with several of the European and Caribbean sailings already available for booking, the cruise line is now offering a limited number of “long weekend” cruises to Bermuda. Departing from New York City, these select sailings will include a full day in Bermuda, with a four day itinerary that leaves on a Thursday. Carnival Horizon will join several other voyages to the island that depart from 5 different ports along the United State’s East Coast next year.

New Partnership for Holland America

Looking to expand their reach and diversify onboard offerings, Holland America has announced several partnerships over the past few years. This past week, they added Oprah Winfrey to that list of celebrity collaborators. More specifically, the line is partnering with O, Oprah’s magazine, to bring onboard programming and themed cruises to several Alaskan voyages. You can even get a glimpse of the day-time talk show queen, as it has been announced that Oprah will be onboard Holland America’s MS Eurodam for two nights of the ship’s July 15th sailing this year.

Windstar Official Cruise Line of James Beard Foundation

It is now official. Last week, Windstar and the James Beard Foundation strengthened their partnership. Windstar was named the official cruise line of the Foundation known for recognizing culinary excellence. Onboard, this new bond between the Foundation and Windstar will enhance cruisers’ dining experiences. New signature recipes will be rolling out fleet wide, featuring one specialty meal an evening onboard Windstar’s ships. Monthly appearances by guest chefs on select Windstar sailings who will lead cooking demos, interact with guests, and craft signature dinners is all part of the experience.

While he may be obsessed with doing extensive amounts of research on ships and all elements of a cruise, Don enjoys sharing his new found knowledge with fellow cruisers. When he is not sailing the high seas, he does whatever his wife tells him to do-it only took 10 years to realize this.
