Having experienced three nights of Dynamic Dining Classic so far on Anthem of the Seas, it was time for us to sample Silk. This pan-Asian restaurant sports a modern décor with lots of red tones and gold accents throughout the venue.

The food at Anthem of the Seas Silk is Asian American with a mix of Eastern flavors. Being one of our favorite restaurants when we dined on Quantum of the Seas, we were eager to see if the restaurant and new menus lived up to our expectations.

By now we knew exactly how Dynamic Dining Classic worked. Spending a full day in Bermuda, we were a little late to dinner, arriving just before 6:00pm. Bypassing the small line in front of the restaurant, we asked a waiter where table 108 was located. Given the restaurants are mirror images of each other, we had a general sense of the table’s location, but the waiter was nice enough to escort us to our oceanview table for 2.

We noticed most of the same individuals who also had Dynamic Dining Classic already engrossed in their dinners. Manilow, our waiter for the duration of the cruise, noticed us arrive and quickly came over with some menus. He also asked if we wanted something to drink, which of course we did, so he went to flag down a bar server. Returning with a basket of bread, we were a bit disappointed that it was not the fried wontons offered on Quantum of the Seas.

The bar server arrived quickly on this occasion, and we ordered some signature cocktails. The Princess got the Passion Dragon, and I got the Asian Mule. Both of us enjoyed the drinks, with the flavors adding to the restaurant’s theme.

Looking over the menu, it was definitely different than we remembered. With a strong emphasis on starters and entrees you would find in a “Chinese-American” restaurant back home, we were fans. Everything on the menu sounded delicious.

Oddly, the Princess ordered some fried rice which was delivered as a starter. It was not greasy but was a bit dry. We both enjoyed the rice, but it didn’t wow us.

Of course, I had to do two starters. First, I started with the shrimp and pork pot stickers. Cooked in the traditional style, these pot stickers were crispy and light, and the accompanying Sambal vinegar was perfect for dipping. I easily devoured this dish.

Next up, I gave the Salty Fried Korean Squid a try. These were a bit rubbery and no where near as good as the squid served at Jamie’s Italian on Anthem of the Seas, or the Asian style squid at the Food Republic on Norwegian Escape.

Again, we found the service here to be a bit slow; although, there was a female assistant waiter who did come by regularly to fill our water glasses and clear our plates. Granted, we did arrive late, so part of the delay could have been that we were behind most of the other patrons.

When our entrees arrived, we had a mix of different flavors and food. As you would expect, the wife ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken. It was definitely a hefty portion of chicken, but according to her, it sounded better than it tasted.

I started with the Spicy Pad Thai. It was not very spicy at all; in fact, the sauce was sort of bland. There was a good mix of chicken and shrimp along with the noodles, but all in all the dish was just ok.

For my second entree, I went with the Chinese Pepper Steak. The steak was cooked well, but it was drowning in sauce. Later, I overheard the head waiter suggest the Hibachi Steak to another table. This is what I got the last time we dined at Silk and loved it. Now I know not to deter from this entree.

Similar to our last dining experience, dessert was just so-so.

The wife did the Mango Rice Pudding, and I did the Coconut and Meringue Cheesecake. Given the amount of food we had already consumed, not finishing our desserts was fine with us.

To recap, our Anthem of the Seas Silk experience was somewhat less satisfying than our original experience on Quantum of the Seas. The new menus do have a wider range of Asian offerings, but unfortunately, the food was hit or miss. I definitely recommend ordering the Hibachi Steak as I really enjoyed it last time, and it still seems to be a hit.

Keep in mind that the menu does change part way through your cruise, offering completely different dinner selections. On our 5 day Bermuda cruise, the Anthem of the Seas Silk “menu A” was offered on nights 1-4 and “menu B” on night 5. You can see all the menus here.
