Norwegian Pearl Back at Sea

As our second cruise together way back in 2008, the Norwegian Pearl is dear to our hearts. That is why it was bittersweet when Norwegian Pearl sailed out of dry dock with a few enhancements. The two week long refurbishment added brand new decor and improved furnishings to all of the staterooms onboard the ship. Many of the onboard restaurants including Moderno, Cagney’s Steakhouse, and O’Sheehan’s Bar and Grill also received a makeover with new furniture, carpeting, and fixtures.  Public areas in the Haven also got some sprucing up with new artwork, furniture, and improvements to the pool and spa areas. Norwegian Pearl is now back in its seasonal homeport of Miami.

New Ships for American Cruise Line

A new style of cruising will be hitting the U.S. waterways in the coming years. A few days ago, American Cruise Line revealed their plans for a new fleet of ships that are set to sail next year. These modern riverboats will have the “largest cabins” in the United States for the 200 person boats that the cruise line claims will bring a “European” river cruise experience to various regions of the country including the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, the Mid-Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, and even Alaska’s Inside Passage. These ships will be added to the current fleet which includes two coastal cruises set to be released later this year and in 2018.

“New” Cabins on Royal Caribbean Cruise Ships

In an attempt to “simplify” things, Royal Caribbean has released a new cabin categorization system. As reported by our friends at Royal Caribbean Blog, the new system is a means to standardize cabin categories across the various ships in the fleet. The new letter and number system will increase the number of different cruise cabin types using a system that includes Category Types, Characteristics, and Category Codes. Confused yet? There will also be a reclassification of certain cabin types in the Royal Suite class on Oasis-class and Quantum-class ships, including the line’s newest ship Harmony of the Seas. These changes go into effect starting in 2018. Get those deck plans ready!

Silversea Muse Completes Sea Trials

The Silver Muse is one step closer to her inaugural cruise. This past week, Silversea’s newest ship completed its sea trials. Completing all maneuvers and tests, the luxury cruise ship passed with flying colors. This flagship vessel is set for its first voyage in April. The ninth ship in the fleet, Silver Muse is expected to set a new standard for the ultra-luxury market with spacious outdoor areas, fine dining, and exquisitely appointed cabins. The initial season has the ship visiting ports in the Mediterranean on 8 to 13 day itineraries.

Don Bucolo, or “DB”, loves everything about cruising- the ocean, the food, and the atmosphere. While he may be obsessed with doing extensive amounts of research on ships and all elements of a cruise, Don enjoys sharing his new found knowledge with fellow cruisers. When he is not sailing the high seas, he does whatever his wife tells him to do-it only took 10 years to realize this.

  1. Just booked a cruise on the Allure of the Seas in April 2018. Took advantage of the new Star Suite class & booked a Sky Loft Suite for an incredible price. Plus, if there any future sales (there are always some sort of sale), we could get a further reduction in price. Can’t book airfare yet, but should be able to in May.

Awesome news Cindy! Thanks for sharing. We are very jealous. We did the Royal Suite class on Oasis and it was amazing. We can’t wait to hear about your experiences with this new class of cabin. Any cruises booked in the interim?
