5 New Year’s Cruise Resolutions

Give Specialty Dining A Whirl – I admit that for quite some time, I refused to pay additional for dining on a cruise. Finally, I caved when the wife insisted that we try a specialty restaurant on Quantum of the Seas. Since then, we now look forward to a special dining occasion (or two) each cruise. In 2017, expand your horizons and try a specialty dining venue or a different onboard restaurant during your next vacation. Your palette will thank you.

Cruise Where Your Never Have Before – St. Thomas, St. Maarten, and the Bahamas are warm and sunny,  but cruise ships travel all over the world. In 2017, resolve to cruise to somewhere new. We have plans to visit Cuba on a cruise in 2017, as well as taking our first European cruise in 2018. There are so many places you can visit like Alaska, the Mediterranean, or the Mexican Riviera. If you have the time, sailing around South America or the Scandinavian countries would be a nice departure too. Where will 2017 take you?

Switch Up Cruise Lines – This might be hard to do, but you never know if you like something unless you give it a try. While we are partial to a few select cruise lines, in 2017, we are taking our first ever Carnival Cruise together. I am excited, while the Princess is a little apprehensive, but with so many great ships from various brands, why not try a new cruise line? We tried MSC Cruises this year and will he heading back out on their newest ship, MSC Seaside, in 2018. Who knows, you may fall in love with a new ship or cruise line this year.

Challenge Yourself – You are on vacation not only to relax but to try new things. 2017 is the perfect time to do something you never thought you would. Zip line through the jungle, bungee jump off a bridge, or participate in a yacht race like we will be doing very soon. Even if you are not adventurous, you could make a resolution to learn to snorkel or scuba dive, or perhaps even give back. Many cruise lines now offer social impact excursions that give you the opportunity to support local communities through volunteer work for a few hours while ashore.

Spend More Days at Sea – Having spent 22 days at sea in 2016, this one will be a stretch with our work schedules. But, we are committed to cruising even more this year. So far, we have 17 days planned with more cruises under consideration for 2017. If only we had unlimited vacation days (and travel funds), then every day could be a sea day. With so many great cruises of various lengths out there, we are hopeful that 2017 will be our busiest cruise year yet. How many days will you spend at sea this year?

Don Bucolo, or “DB”, loves everything about cruising- the ocean, the food, and the atmosphere. While he may be obsessed with doing extensive amounts of research on ships and all elements of a cruise, Don enjoys sharing his new found knowledge with fellow cruisers. When he is not sailing the high seas, he does whatever his wife tells him to do-it only took 10 years to realize this.
